The Penn St Dumpster Fire Thread

Only thing I expect out of this is an announcement that Fran has been extended
It’s time to double down on the support for Fran and the program he is building. James Franklin and staff was actually putting up a much better fight in beating Fran and staff in Pennsylvania recruiting battles than Miami, Florida, and Florida State in Florida recruiting battles. As well as Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Maryland in DMV recruiting battles. This should be seen as a huge opportunity to continue to upgrade the talent level in players they can get in Pennsylvania which has been improving already.

Fran is a great candidate for this job and I expect him to be one of the finalists. He is a jersey guy and this is a jersey football dream job. He may never get another shot at Penn St. in his life so I'm very concerned we will lose him. Other than Cignetti, we all know that Fran Brown is the best coach on that list. So don't delude yourself into thinking we won't lose him. Its going to be long few months as this plays out. Certainly, we are at risk.

I think we pick up at least one player if not more that was committed to Penn State.

Great time to be a Syracuse fan. LETS GO ORANGE!

I guess we have to worry that Fran will decide he does not want to win championships after all. Rutgers is not getting past Penn State, much less Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan, and USC. And that's not counting Washington, UCLA, Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Iowa. Meanwhile, Indiana and Illinois are better than half of those teams the past 2 years, with Indiana perhaps the best team in the B1G this year.

Maryland, Rutgers, Purdue, NW, MSU, and Minnesota seem to be a clear Tier 3. Indiana's donor base finally woke up to get them out of this tier. Does Rutgers have that ability???
good point. agreed 100%.. I Still stand firm the Fran will NOT be head coach at Penn State!

No way. No offense to Fran, but he hasn't shown much yet. Last year was great, but we also had arguably our best QB ever. I don't see a blue blood feeling like they need to gamble with a hire like this.

Even blue bloods get desperate when Plans A through H do not pain out. We have seen some head-scratching coach hires over the years.

Fran is a great coach. this would not be head scratching. I would want him over all of the other candidates except Cignetti. You can't have it both ways and say "Fran is a great coach for SU, look at Calvin Russel" and then say "Fran is not good enough for another job"...He either is or he isn't and most people on the board think he is, so it makes sense he would be in the mix for the job using simple logic.

Us thinking he’s a great coach isn’t the same as him being a candidate for elite jobs.

James Franklin made the playoffs last year. Good luck selling a coach who’s currently 3-3 in the ACC to *that* fanbase

He would be a hard sell to our fanbase too if he were at a lower level.

Had Fran gone 10-3 last year at ECU and was 3-3 this year, would any of us get excited over him as a prospective HC?

Simple is the right word.

He won't be in penn sts top 5, maybe even top 10.

I love Fran too, thats an absurd take. There are lot more qualified and better candidates for that job than Fran. Hes had one great year.
