Serious question. If Fran did leave for PSU... would we take Franklin as the replacement? We would only have to pay him what we were paying Fran... PSU would pay the rest to get up to $8M or so. We would get a guy who coached in a playoff... already has some recruits in place that could follow him potentially...

That'd be a helluva swap. But if we had to lose Fran, what a cool way for Franklin to find a suitable job for redemption. Suddenly, he wouldn't be the villain Franklin anymore.

Are you hinting that Syracuse gave Red more than the typical 15-20% men's basketball allocation of this years' $20.3 million so Fran got less than 75% for football and he wasn't happy?
Oh and Franklin brings Terry Smith with him as well lol. That would really make the recruiting battlefield more interesting. Also, Josh Gattis has worked under James Franklin before... The coaching world is really so interconnected, it’s wild. We really need to decide if we are in for real with football, which I think we are. We shouldn’t worry about losing Fran. Hypothetically, if we are serious, like for real, about football and Fran still leaves for PSU, bringing in James Franklin would be a great move if it includes Terry Smith. With all that being said above is possible it’s a great reason for Penn State to not mess with us. Also, if they do hire Matt Rhule, I still think we will have an easier time recruiting Pennsylvania than when Franklin was in charge.

So silly, he got them to the title game last year with a win over Cigs, Georgia and Ped St. They lost Kelly and won't want to lose another one.

Actually he would be the villain pretty quickly if the program didn’t continue to improve. Who Fran is and how he presents himself to the community generates a lot of good will. Me included. I’m not familiar enough with Franklin to know if he’s remotely even the same way but some of what is said in this thread indicates the opposite

I think Penn State is overvaluing who they can get. I think they will end up with Plan C or worse.
It sounds like Rhule will recommend Fran (unless he is just creating cover for his own move). Not sure how the heck they would sell that. Hey we are throwing away $50M to get rid of Franklin to go hire another recruiter who just went 4-8. So I don't think Fran even gets an interview.
IMO the next Penn State HC will be there only 3-4 years. They are going to be setup to fail. Fran is probably better off being the HC after this next one is gone.
