No matter what you think about our HOF coach and whether or not the game has "passed him by," no matter how much or how little you think of our current coaching staff and their ability (or inability) to recruit or develop players, and no matter how much or how little importance you place on the sanctions, it's hard to argue that the program has been in a gradual decline, or has at least grown incredibly stagnant, over the past few years.
If that is indeed the case, I would like to argue that there may be a silver lining. When we do hire a new coach, it will be much easier for him to come in and justify putting his own stamp on the program. If JB was going out on top, it would be that much harder for a new guy to come in and justify making wholesale changes. As things stand... not so much.
Of course, a lot can still happen between now and when JB actually does retire.
