The train thing...

Yeah, I just think the GFR version has the best "feel" to it.

Wow I feel so connected to this thread.

Is there anyone else who has played golf with Mr. Trolley (Tony Riposo), The 1959 Saltine Warrior (Mr. Deluca who was a shop teacher at ESM) or seen Little Eva in person at the Fayetteville Inn during the 60's?

I didn't think so, lol.

Tony was the musical director for the McGuire sisters and he has some hair raising stories about his experiences including some neat stuff about the mob.

Mr. Deluca, I can't remember his first name, had some cool recollections of the Texas game as well as the TCU loss from a few years earlier. In that game, Jim Brown scored all the points but missed the game tying extra point.

Deluca's Saltine Warrior picture appeared in Life Magazine as he roamied the sidelines. He has tried for years to obtain a copy but has had no luck finding one.

Getting back to the original theme of this thread there are a lot of good ideas here about how to utilize the Express going forward. I don't want to sound like a blue hair but I though they could have turned down the decibels a notch or two.

Deon Goggins has to be enjoying this.

Just curious--why did you say that?

He used to do the diesel train whistle pull after a sack and I believe at his community college they played the train whistle after his sacks.

Sadly I know who the McGuire sisters are. This from Wiki:

They retired from public appearances in 1968, giving their last performance that year on The Ed Sullivan Show. Phyllis McGuire continued to perform solo for a time. The demise of the group is often attributed to Phyllis' long-standing personal relationship with mobster, Sam Giancana (although she has always claimed that their friendship was strictly platonic), which reportedly blacklisted the group. During one of his 1960s court appearances for which Phyllis was subpoenaed, Giancana told reporters outside the courthouse that "Phyllis knows everything" about the rumored, unethical behaviors of John . Kennedy and his brother, Robert. Phyllis has resided in a famously showcased mansion in Las Vegas for decades, boasting its own beauty parlor, a swan moat, and a replica of the Eiffel Tower which actually rose through the home's roof. When asked by Barbara Walters during a 1980s ABC-TV "20/20" interview from within the mansion if any of the money to build the lavish home came from Giancana, Phyllis denied the innuendo, claiming that she invested heavily in oil when the sisters were at the height of their popularity.[3]

My Uncle went to school with Socrates Sampson.

Tony used to wear Sam's expensive suits without his knowledge. Not the smartest thing to do when you're dealing with a mobster of his ilk.

Maybe SU could market the idea to Trane Corp. Would love to see their advertising inside the Carrier Dome after that poke in the eye they gave us at North Carolina State a few years back. (ps, I know it's spelled differently)

I have fond memories of the Saltine Warrior. I was a student at SU in the 50's (wow am I old) and grew up worshipping that mascot. Can't we all just face the fact that he's not coming back? Honor him as you would a deceased relative if you must but let him go.
Hell, half of our fans weren't even alive when he was laid to rest in 1978.
born in 1979...dad was a little boy when ernie davis was playing so I understood all the history before I made it into high school in the mid 90's.

Hey, let's not be making fun of The McGuire Sisters...

gotta love the bras from that era. that pic makes me think of Babs from animal house wearing the gloves to give greg marmalard the ol' reach around

Purdue already does this. Skip to 1:30.

That's a cute little choo-choo. Looks like it belongs in the mall around Christmas time.

I would assume if SU or any other program decided to do something like this, they would add a more intimidating train, not a covered golf cart.

Holy lord imagine that? You'd have people wishing for the key shaking to come back!
I can't imagining anything making me wish that thing comes back (if it ever goes away). I'd rather have us release swarms of bees on 3rd down than see another Key Play graphic with a bunch of clueless freshmen shaking their keys. It turned into horrible marketing for Key Bank, because now I just think of the endless 3rd and 10+'s we gave up during the GERG era whenever I see a Key Bank.

And we could have our cheerleaders out front pulling the train! No wait, that just went terribly wrong.
