The UConn Thread...

I HATE Uconn.. but I give respect where it's due, the one time Big East dormat has turned itself into a college basketball Blue blood in just around 40 years and our beloved orange is sinking like a rock.. That being said red or whoever is coaching next year better get a hell of a better team in here for next year or Hurly and the boys will win by 30+..
SU is playing UConn next year? Is that confirmed?

If so, is JW a sadist and trying to torture Red?

Guys, I'm all for cuse but let's call a spade a spade. UConn has far surpassed us in basketball, and we will likely never catch up, at least in the short term. Our glory bb days are in the rear view and there is no guarantee they will ever change, especially given the current college sports landscape. Let's appreciate what we had and hope for the best, but we are in no position to say anything about UConn bb. Sometimes it's better to just shut up. I would be ok with closing this thread. Go Cuse!! :)

JW has nothing to do with the basketball schedule. It’s done by Pete C at Red’s direction.
So JW doesn't have full authority on hiring/firing and no involvement in bball schedule, interesting.

Youd think w current state of affairs and JB gone he might have more involvement.

Not with that attitude

Why make this post? Absolute inane doom porn. We are in a transition period, we will figure it out long term. We can say whatever we want about UConn because screw them.

Easily one of the most morbid posts I’ve ever read on any board. How proud you must be. My favorite sentence is “ I’m all for Cuse.” Hilarious.

Transition period?? The program has been dropping like a rock for a few years now.. Like I said I hate Uconn but I give respect when it's due, the program is a "blue blood" sadly 'Cuse is not.

Yeah you got to give UConn respect for what they’ve been able to accomplish and is clearly the superior program. Even a little catching up to what they’ve accomplished means our program is turning around. Millennials and late Gen Z’ers who grew up Syracuse fans would mostly say UConn not Georgetown is our biggest rival. This is your next generation of donors, so yeah I think a message of we want to catch up to UConn is something that can’t hurt rallying the fan base. We don’t have to be obsessed with them, but we don’t have to avoid the subject and pretend that they don’t exist because we have no debate to claim we’re the better program anymore.

With all due respect, this is a moronic post. There are major changes coming to college sports. Schools will either be on the inside or they will be on the outside. In all sports. If you think that the SEC and the Big 10 are going to let success go to schools not in major conferences, I think you are mistaken. Football is just the start. Now, will we get a seat at the big boy table, that is an open question. That is why it is imperative for Fran Brown to keep the success of football going. Basketball has already been shown how important it is. No major conference has wanted UConn. They had to go back to the Big East hat in hand. Next year, the Orange will have more money to spend on hoop than we have had. Can Red make the most of that? Don't know. But to pack in the future is as I said, moronic.

Why you have to say his post moronic? It's a personal opinion just like your was.. what isn't opinion and is a fact is Uconn hoops is a blue blood. Plus if Fran gets this program really up and running you , me and everyone on here know he will be poached away by one of the big dogs before cuse ever comes close to sniffing a natty

If he and I were talking in say 1994 and I told him UConn would never be in Syracuse's league in hoop, what would you say about that opinion? To say what the future holds about us is out and out dumb. And like us, UCLA, and UConn, no matter what we ever do, we will not be considered blue bloods. Right now, they have a fantastic program. 6 titles in about 26 years says it all. But the blue bloods of college hoops have been and unfairly always will be UNC, Duke, Indiana, Kentucky and Kansas. And I don't share your crystal ball and know Fran Browns future. And last I checked, you don't speak for everyone on the board and what they think.

My brother.. they are a Blue blood 6 titles say it all and I'm a Tar heel fan first and foremost.. But before '94 Uconns rise was already apparent.. As for Fran we all know if the big boys come calling syracuse can't and more then likely will not pay what it will take to keep him

Not really. At that point, they hadn't even got to a final four. I live in Ct and there was so much talk here that and believe it or not, on the radio talk shows that Calhoun couldn't get them to a final four. So, living here, not in central NY, you get a fuller picture of UConn basketball. They are like a really rich person going to live in Westport Ct. They belong, but they don't.

I know..I have family that live in Danbury, Bethel and Hartford.. and all are grads of Uconn hense my HATE for their program.. If you know hoops then you knew their program was on the rise in '94 they were beating Cuse, gtown, Duke and Carolina for players. Also remember had it not been for a last second Christen Laetner shot in 1990 east regional final Calhoun would of had his first final 4. And yiu don't need my opinion but college basketball experts call them a Blue blood.. believe me I wish they werent..

I have never heard any "basketball expert" whoever they are, call them a blue blood. They can be called the best program in America, but blue bloods implies something else. And the only top flight player they got back then was Donyall Marshall and they only got him because we got put on probation. They hit it big with not one but two Israel players. And quite frankly, that's the last I want to talk about UConn. Or Unc for that matter. Although it was the UNC game back in 1975 that started us on our run. One of the highlights of my Syracuse undergrad years. Oh, and Fran will be at Syracuse a lot longer than BB will be at UNC. If he is at UNC

Lol.. I'm only a UNC hoops fan. But I've heard Bilas, Raf, Jay Wright and coach K call them blue bloods to name a few.. and yes I'm done also talking about them.. I just give respect when it's due

I watch as much college hoop as anyone. Never heard those guys say that. I imagine you didn't go to UNC. What made a cny root for UNC? You root for the Cowboys? The Yankees? The Celts?

Nobody is saying we are. The constant UConn talk is exhausting. You’re not saying anything new.

Itll become very clear, very quickly how "big boy" we are. Fran is the indicator, if he leaves in short order then its simply the writing on the wall: We are being left behind.

I hope that isn't true because I still have a lot of questions about Fran. A great year by a once in a long time QB. We did lose to three teams we were clearly better than. I know that isn't popular on this board. And no one was happier this season than I was. But let's wait until we know more before we put all of our eggs in that basket.

Its less his successes and more the potential people will see in him. He is 100% going 5-7 or 6-6 next year but if he leaves for a lower tier Big 10 program (purdue, rutgers) in the next 3 or so years then its because syracuse is getting left out of the next reshuffle.
