- We won in the Sweet 16. JB beat a Big Ten team. We gave up 14 treys and blew the front end of a one and one on our last possession and still one. Nothing seems to matter with this team.

- We are now 15-2 in games decided by single digits and 7-1 in games decided by less than 5 points. Maybe there is such a thing as having a knack for winning the close ones.

- The crazy thing it that it’s not like we do everything right down the stretch. KJ’s miss at the line set Wisconsin up to win the game by doing what they’ve been doing the whole game- set up a jumper, (it didn’t have to be a three) and make it. But we had the greatest defensive possession at the end of that game I’ve ever seen- we were all over Taylor with two guys. He got it another guy who was open for a nano-second before CJ Fair swallowed him up. A wild three pointer clanged off the side of the back rim and awkward follow shot went over the basket and we won.

- It’s counter-intuitive but when one team is scoring two pointers at will and the other is draining three pointers, the team scoring from two will tend to win because they keep doing it longer. That’s what happened here. Wisconsin scored treys in 6 consecutive trips down the court- and then missed their last five. They got only two free throws in the last 4:13. We kept scoring and won.

- Scoop said that SU’s “eyes lit up when we saw a man for man” vs. K-State. Ah, but K- State was “Wisconsin lite”. Now we’ll see a REAL man for man. We blew by it like it wasn’t there, shooting 27 for 49 (55%) after burning K-State with 23 for 45, (51%). We’re likely to see nothing but man for man teams the rest of the way- teams with enough talent that they don’t need to “slow it down” to prevent us from running away with it. That means we will be hard to stop- or even slow down- the rest of the way.

- Scoop makes some amazingly bad plays but not as many of them as people think. That horrible turnover at the end of the first half was his only one in the game. And he’s having a very productive run in the tournament with 41 points and 19 assists. And he got the offense going that produced all those cuts to the basket that offset all those three pointers. He drives you nuts but he’s got to be out there.

- Maybe the most important play of the season came with 5:56 left in the first half. CJ was in a horrible slump, having gone 1 for 10 in the first two games and not even attempted a shot that counted in this game, (he was fouled and missed both shots). He was trailing Dion Waiters on a fast break. Rather than going in for one of his twisting lay-ups or spectacular dunks, Dion passed the ball back to CJ who slammed it in and annihilated his slump in one instant. Jordan Taylor hit a trey. CJ answered, then Dion hit a jumper, then CJ scored, then Dion then scoop capped off the 11 point run with a trey to give us a 33-23 lead. The lead evaporated but CJ did not. He went on to score 15 points on 7 for 9 shooting. We need him to be the player we know he can be to win this thing and Dion’s unselfishness in that instant should be a remembered as a very important moment if we do it.

- Brandon Triche scored 5 of our first 7 points and presented us from our usual lousy start, even though the Badgers did eventually take the lead. Brandon wound up 5 for 7 from the field and scored 11 points in only 19 minutes. The fact is that we can only have 5 guys out there at any one time and when CJ Fair is “on”, we aren’t going to hear much from James Southerland. Scoop is our point guard so when we have Dion in there and he’s “on”, as he usually is, Brandon is going to be a cheer-leader. But he’s quietly having a good year and will be one of those “senior leaders” that are keys to the team next Year, (Southerland will be the other one).

- Rak and Baye seem to alternate good and bad games. Rak was great vs. Cincinnati, Baye vs. West Virginia. Rak was great vs. K-State, Baye in this game. We need them both in the next game.

- Three is an awfully small number.

34-2 and 3 to do….. Impossible is nothing!!!!

LET’S GO ORANGE!!!
