The Welch Thing...

They were giving up 38.7 ppg in ACC play going into the game. We scored less than that. The O was a problem too.
We probably score 50 if we just kept running with moe instead of distributing. Moe gets hot, we put someone else in.

When Welch came in on 4th down, I think Dino wanted to run a QB draw. He called that play all last year and this year too. I just think Clayton knew he was going to get stuffed if he ran, that's why he suddenly threw that off balance pass.

I don't think Dino wants to tell us the play call, because of either criticism or he doesn't want other coaches to know as they'll look for it in the future. Of course, opposing coaches know this, but Dino has that coaches paranoia.

I also believe the injury and frustration had to do with the pulling as well, probably a mix of the 3.

This is prob correct

Doesn’t say much for our confidence in the passing game

The Flutie benching was smoother.

Dino wants Devito gone, it’s the only conclusion I keep coming to.
I can't imagine what was going through Devito's head. He kept his cool better than most people would

Has Tommy come out yet and said he was hurt?

“As a competitor, you want to be on the field helping your teammates,” said DeVito. “But if you can’t give your all, 100 percent, then they need to put in someone who can.”

DeVito described the injury as being “bruised up,” though it’s unclear exactly when it occurred.

How is it we were able to run with Clemson two years ago and we can't this year? That type of comment is usually about the back of the defense, so we aren't talking about how losing Slayton has hurt our push up front. We have the same DB's now that we had then along with guys that we added that have been viewed as upgrades. Our LBs are more athletic. This comment just doesn't make sense.

Is that source trustworthy? I read here he was benched, not pulled because he was hurt.

I can't help but notice a change in playcalling since Sean Lewis left. I know it was supposed to be a whole teamwork thing with Lynch, but...

it was pretty clear he was limping pretty bad after the TD pass whether it was legs/back whose to know.. but UL was selling out to slow down the run after that hot stretch 3rd quarter and if the QB cant run at all you cant run the play into a stacked line. if Jordan doesnt not score on the 90 yd play its a different end to the game

Has anyone discussed the two straight bs runs up the middle our coaching staff called before relying on Welch to pull heroics out of his ace?

Lynch and Dino have shown a level of incompetency in the red zone that I think only a new OC who has proven decision makng abilities can change.

But our team lives and dies by Lynch!! Well there’s few players on our team that haven’t looked like garbage for most of this year so Im fine with it.

dino’s still my HC but we need an OC

Yeah red zone has been brought up multiple times.
What happened to a surprise play action on say 2nd down?
Or heck I would even take that super jumbo package we ran once in awhile not this BS we get now.

I really hope Dino rights the ship next year so this bizarre decision is a blip.

Assuming Tommy was injured and that he’s still Dino’s best QB...

1.) Why was he still in the game if you were going to pull him for the most important play on the most important drive?

2.) Didn’t the first three quarters demonstrate an injured DeVito was productive? (Certainly better at throwing than Welch)

If Tommy is injured, and still the best QB on the roster, he shouldn’t see the field against Wake.

But I’m guessing he will and some of us may start to wonder if Dino just had his four point FG moment.

Do we ever bring in extra olineman when we are determined to cram it in at the goalline? It's hard for me to believe White can't push a DE or LB backward if he lines up at TE.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who saw Tommy pass-out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it’s pretty serious.
I have a little more of a direct connection than that. But ok.

3/4 years we’ve been terrible at red zone offense. The statistics nationally are really really bad except for last year.

it’s hard to not see this as a trend and that we’re moving forward.

I want to say we did bring in an extra o lineman one time, but honestly don't think it was more then 1 or 2 times this year.

Yep they need to start from ground zero with red zone plays this off season and find something that works.

My kingdom for consistent plays drawn up for Hackett or Benson. Our wideouts are not strong enough to impose their will in the redzone, not one of then. TJ is fast but the d knows its going to him.

I was over the moon seeing Benson at the start of the game getting some good run.
Then he drops the pass that was a bit behind him and seems he was banished to the shadow realm.
It is very odd how we handle TEs.

So, he was able to give it his "all, 100 percent" up until after the incompletion in the EZ, and had to come out because he was "bruised up"?

You mean the runs up the middle that we were averaging 30 ypc on? Those runs? We just gained over 1000 yards in our last 2 games...I think we can simmer the “fire the whole offense” for a minute.

Geez, it’s possible to (a) accept that he was banged up, *and* (b) critique Dino for making the switch at that moment, with that play call.

Some times people seem intent on turning every discussion into some weird, binary debate. Let’s walk and chew gum at the same time.

Maybe not, but sometimes you see what a guy can do first. You seem to think all thing sports is very black and white.
