You're probably right because the same ref that called it a flagrant called the block on Mike G. I don't know what the rules states, but I see it all the time that if player a is ahead of everyone and player B fouls him from behind to prevent a fast break, the call it a flagrant. So not sure why they needed to makeup for anything
