I'd like to see the team get off to a quick start and seize UNCA by the throat from the jump. Starting slowly has been all too common lately. Jump on these guys quick, don't let off the gas, and don't ease up.

I'd like to see Christmas avoid foul trouble, and be on the court for 25-30 minutes. He needs a minutes infusion. The thing I'm most concerned about with him aren't the rebounds / defense / fouls [although those are things to be concerned about, as well], it is: what is Xmas going to do in a pressure situation? He's played a little this year, but not much in clutch situations, with the game on the line, with the ball in his hands and he has to make a play / avoid making a mistake with 20ooo fans screaming.

I'd love to see Scoop and KJ bounce back. And they will--book it.

I'd like to see CJ show that he's no longer ill, and that we can book him down for his standard 11 and 8 from here on out.

I'd like to see Dion do his thing. Keep on keeping on.

I'd like to see Triche and Southerland knock down some jumpers, just to get in the flow and set the tone for how they are going to play the rest of the tournament.

I'd like to see MCW get a few minutes to help keep the other backcourt players' legs fresh, and to prove that he belongs.

And I'd like to see Keita play more like he did as a freshman, where he looked like a kid who'd played at Oak Hill, who wasn't affected by the pressure of playing in big games and who was ready to be a key contributor. He was a defensive force last season and a much better rebounder. Time to step it up, kid.

Let's Go Orange!!!

I think a lot of people don't realize how the players have to adjust to different refs...ones they have never been involved with and how the players adjust to how the refs are calling the game. If the refs take away something that SU does well like take charges or don't call blocking at the top of the key or 3 seconds, we may have some problems.

All good stuff

I think MCW gets some good run today. It would be too much to ask for Dion, Scoop, and Brandon to all be firing on all cylinders but I want 2 of the 3 to go for 15+.

I think we get 14 pts and 7 boards from our two headed center

6 guys in double figures and SU opens it up big in the second half. We will win going away.

As an aside, two friends who reported to me before I retired...she a Southern Miss alumna and he a KSU alumnus...are already yapping at me. I remind them that they are barely capable of beating each other much less SU. I've also informed them that the Orange deserves some props for booting their least replacable player in order to level the playing feild for the other 63 teams...

most of all i want to see focus from all players 1 through 9. aside from the very top teams i just don't see talent gaps where we shouldn't be able to compete just fine with everyone even without fab. in these college games it just seems that more often than not the teams that are winning are playing with consistently with more focus.

oh and if scoop or triche aren't playing well i want to see more mcw.

I want to see Rak play with confidence.

Keita provide solid bench minutes.

Play 1-9

Scoop, Triche and KJo bring it.

The Press. I really think we should run waves of subs in and press when we put Keita in the game.

*We lost our intimidator inside but we still have more depth and talent than anyone in the East. Lets take advantage of that.

I would like to see the press early and often. There's been too much negative news around the team. I'd like to see JB jump start the offense, and try to really bury these guys out of the gate.

In the early season, JB went to the press a number of times early in the game to overwhelm a weak opponent. I'd like to see more of that today.

We are ridiculously athletic and deep. We have 10 fouls between 2 long athletic Centers. I really think we should press periodically throughout the game. In this instance, I think Gottlieb is correct.

The press can be an asset I agree but it may depend on how well other teams handle it and if NCA has good ball handlers and hits their spots correctly they could hurt SU if they press...I think Boeheim is going to have to get a feel for this one.

Or perhaps a token press. Just so when they get it over halfcourt they have 20-25 seconds to get into their set and not just probe like little girls for an eternity.

Agree 100%. It doesn't make sense to press [for long] a team that can counter with 3-4 ball handlers and break the press easily. UNCA sounds like one of those teams.

Press might not work as well against them as it might against, say, KSU or Southern Miss. Up to coach to figure that out and apply it situationally.

NCA likes to run so I'm not sure they are going to change their whole year of what they've been doing for one game but it is possible they might probe around like teams have been doing to SU.

This scenario should never happen. Rak is way down on the list of options for that to occur. If it does, I'm more confident with him making something happen than our former center. Fab had a bad habit of chucking the ball at the rim if the easy dunk wasn't available.

I'm not as demanding as most on here. I'd just like to see a blowout win, like someone pointed out UCONN used to get when they were a 1 seed. I don't care how it comes about, as long as it does.

I also wouldn't mind seeing a dunk or other play worthy of being included in "One Shining Moment". We tend to get shortchanged in that montage most seasons.

Next round will require some actual strategy, I seriously want to see some shining moments in this game, because nothing after this is guaranteed.

It absolutely could happen. What if he grabs an offensive rebound with the game on the line? What does he do with the ball? Take it back up or kick it out? What if he gets a pass out at the high post with the game tied and a minute left to play--does he try to make that entry pass, or does he wait to hand it off to a guard? What if his man comes out to aggressively overplay him defensively? What if he gets caught in a double team out near the end line? Does he panic and get rushed into a mistake trying to get rid of the rock? What if the lane opens up and he has a clear path to the hoop?

I'm not just talking about him scoring / shooting. It could very well happen. Experienced players tend not to get as rattled because they've been in such situations before. Rak hasn't. That was my point.

nc asheville looks to be a guard driven team. i don't think pressing them will be effective.
does appear our guards have some size on them and would like to see us use that advantage.

I have confidence in Rak. He's made plays in big games.

I have confidence in him, too--although I acknowledge that this is mostly based upon optimism rather than his extensive history of PT. Hope he elevates his game now, because we really need him to.

I believe he is up to the task, as well. Time for him to prove it.

This should be a good game to get him some mojo. He's going to be the biggest dude out there.

if we do all that, we'll beat asheville by 102 points

I want to see RAK block a shot into the opposite basket.

I agree with this 100%, id like to see us come out and dominate from the start like Iam sure UK will do. Now I know UNCA is better then WKU but getting a nice lead and allowing Keita, MCW and others to play 10+ minutes woudl be nice. The last thing this team needs right now is a dogfight deep into the second half with a 16 seed, its a recipe for disaster.

At least WKU has a game under their belts, and they have to be fired up to have a chance to play against UK. I'll bet that game will be close for the first 20 minutes.

Normally I woudl agree with you but WKU looked overmatched for much of the game before taking over late, UK will be up 45 at that point. UK just seems so much better I dont see it being close for long.

OMG the world is going to end because we have to start a McDonalds All-American! ;)
Sure, I'd like to see Fab play but this isn't the Doomsday scenario the media is painting.

Perhaps the Fab suspension will free JB to actually start his best lineup of available players. Dion, Triche, CJ, Rak, KJo.
