Whitlock is barking up the wrong tree. This series was done by 5 people and overseen by a few others. One person isn't going to do all 5 parts of the investigation.

The imbalanced thing about that kind of situation is that there seems to be a lot of destitute kids that show enough athletic or academic ability to get a scholarship, but financial wisdom doesn't often belong to the young or come bundled with the athletic or academic ability that got them in to school.:noidea:If a kid is destitude and offered a scholie, meals, travel stipends, etc...he/she needs to be thankful he/she has a chance to get educated but also needs to budget accordingly. It is all about priorities.
Part Two Academics
IO, brings up a very interesting point one of the writers Thayer Evans is an OU alum, and he may be helping his alma mater be able to ditch its little brother Oklahoma State to join greener pastures B1G or SEC.
So the writer is risking his job and his future within the sportswriting industry because he wants to make a rival school look bad by making stuff up?
all because he's a youth minister doesn't make him credible, hell there is lots of fraud when it comes to preaching
Nah, factory workers make products. The players are the product.
I'm not suggesting they get paid by the colleges, I just think they should be able to make money off their likeness. I believe the courts will agree with me shortly with the OBannon case and the NCAA will have to revisit the way they sell the game.
I go to watch SU football. For the most part, I don't care who the players are. They are not the product. (Perhaps they are part of the machinery.) The product is the brand that SU developed, invested in and sustained.
You are in the minority.
When the team was 1-10 or whatever, no one went to the games.
If the players are good, more wins, more fans...They are absolutely the product.
We come back every year because it's SYRACUSE football. And when Syracuse football is winning, even MORE people turn out. But it's not about the players. The fans will cheer for any miserable SOB if their team is winning.
I call BS on that one. If you're a scholarship athlete the meal plan is included. How could you almost be starving?

I worked in a dining hall (Brockway) during the fall of my freshman year.Allegedly SU used to serve beer in the dining halls when the drinking age was 18. Not sure if that is truth or urban myth. My guess is the latter. Maybe one of our more elderly posters on this board can confirm.

the ncaa needs the death penalty. kick ass johnny. spit in barkley's face.If Miami didnt get the death penalty for all the evidence that came out against them last year. Then no matter how bad this looks for OSU, i'd be floored if they received the death penalty.
I read somewhere about either or both SEC and Big 12 schools having dummy churches set up so they can fund their players through that. This is big business folks along with a lot of pride for some of these fans or alumni, this in my opinion is one of the biggest reasons why Marrone left, you just can't out bid these guys for players or facilities.
Plus to say a lot of these guys are actually student athletes is comical to say the least.
