What happened to the quick game?

If you are going to go deep in the snap count use more motion

Dead Arm?

It doesn’t look as dynamic as it did earlier in the year. They did score 28 in the second half but it just seems more of a struggle.

Not sure why, but the offense looks a little shaky. I think Kyle looks a little gunshy.

My other thought is I’m nit so sure we’ve self scouted ourselves very well. It looks to me that we’ve not countered some of the adjustments other DCs have made to take away our short passing game.

I watched OG run his pattern in to coverage a couple of times.

Putting a lot of loft on his deep balls of late and throwing those passes off of his back foot. Lots of drops by our receivers. Not sure why they are not using more motion, roll outs and/or using LQA as a receiver. He catches the ball.

Two games in a row, the opposing team’s CBs are keeping tight coverage on SU’s receivers and it’s working for them.
That's where Ross Simmons comes in his size and strength are going to burn the remaining teams on the schedule. He will run over some of these CB's and make them hesitate a few seconds, and that's all he needs.

I just think it’s as simple as facing better defenses. VaTech and Pitt pride themselves on defense. Tech has an AA defensive lineman and Pitt really schemes pressure well. Tech had a top 5 ranked red zone defense heading into Saturdays game. Syracuse was very effective running Allen down the middle of their red zone defense, to combat press coverage on the outside.

Just not crisp and confident looking.

This has been true since the start of the season. We just got lucky the WR’s were making great plays over and over and defenders weren’t making INT’s. But he’s been throwing high all season.

This is very true. And now playing teams with better corners, the receivers are not running free. I think we did a good job finally making adjustments in the second half of VT.

there is a reason defensive ends and cover corners are so coveted in the NFL draft.

When you have two good cover corners on wideouts, you basically allow your other 9 defensive players to cover 4 skill guys in a shrunken field (mostly between the numbers). When you are playing zone, you have 11 players covering 6 skill guys, the whole width of the field. The cover corners allow for more defensive congestion in the middle of the field.

Teams are able to have lots of help on Gadsden when they are playing our wideouts man to man. We adjusted somewhat with more bubble screens and horizontal passes (And power run game). It was good for 250 second half yards.

It’s rarely easy for coaches to get away from the kind of offense that they want to run especially if they have seen success. (Dinos teams never seemed to adjust).

I believe the key to the whole thing is to be able to run the ball the way we did last year, and if in fact, we are scrapping the RPO, (mostly) and that was the key to success Saturday , that opens everything else up.

We are fine—maybe a little rocky in the first half. McCord was still 24-35 for 280, and the interception Hatcher just gave up on. We scored 5 TDS in the second half and overtime and probably would have scored on the other two in the first it weren't for bad turnovers.

We are doing all of these things without a deep threat at WR and a line that struggles to block—remarkable, actually.

I’m not sure if it’s dead arm but there’s definitely something a bit physically off with McCord.

Potato arm , tale as old as time

We had 2 deep threats

One was gone
One is hurt

then you run your offense even shorter because teams are getting pressure

Not surprising its harder to throw. Much like its harder in the Red Zone

The first play called by Nixon in OT was fantastic. A quick 16 yard gain.
Great observation. I thought that the play call was unbelievable. VT was completely confused by that call.
I also liked the use of Dan V during the game. I fully expect us to use Dan going forward and i also hope that we take a shot out of that formation. One other observation was that they changed up and simplified the blocking scheme by eliminating the RPO enabling the OL to fire off the ball and not worry about being downfield on a pass play. All good adjustments by the staff.

The first time we ran a crazy formation the play would have worked had Dan followed the hole but he took it outside.

I dont think VT had any idea what to do once we had LA go in motion
