Toledo Series

Some other thoughts...

The return game in is 2029, which we could always buy out if our financial situation allows for it.

I would not be surprised if the 2026 Notre Dame game is a NYC game.

ND only has 3 scheduled South Bend games right now out of 10 scheduled games. They play 3 ACC road and 2 home in 2025. One would think 2026 would be the opposite, which means our game is not a Dome game. They really need another at home.

Would not expect this game to be played in NYC. Officially it was announced as a Cuse home game. It was back forth with ND if this was a home game or not.

I can tell you that Ive talked to people close to the scheduling and they have insisted to me this game will be played in the Dome.

Things can certainly change $$$$$$ but I expect we will see Notre Dame in the Dome in 2026.

I hope so. We could see 3 of those 7 games sell out easily, even if we are not good.

If the choice was budgetary then I agree with the choice.
A home and away game, and theoretically the ability to pay more for assistants/support staff is much more important to the program than shelling out $ for Toledo to come here an additional game.

My Notre Dame buddy who is very well connected up there was somewhat surprised to see that game being scheduled at the Dome when I sent him that news earlier this week. He was under the impression that it was going to be a neutral site game. That being said, since Dr. Two Phones is no longer our AD, I will remain confident that the game will be at the Dome.

We went too. It was so long ago I think I remember golfing at a decent course either on campus or right by campus on Friday. It was a fun. Between me being in my twenties then, partying harder than I can now, and my memory sketchy now due to old age sinking in, the details are hit and miss, but I know we had a great time. ;)
Ottawa Park. It's right next to campus. Short but really fun course to play.

I agree with what a lot are saying. I'm fine with this being a home and home, so we don't have to drop a ton of money on a game when it is more important elsewhere.

Id like to see how many MAC teams got 1 and 1’s with P4 programs. Could be wrong but certainly doesn’t seem that it happens often…or at all.

The better MAC programs have been getting them with lower P4 schools for years. As buy guarantees pricing have risen...even more so.

I did a quick look and it appears the 2 for 1 series that once were commonplace with MAC schools have largely gone away.

Instead, the schools are scheduling home and home series against P4 schools, or bye games.

They are going with home and home series against smaller, less monied P4 programs, and with buy games against the P4 schools with big bucks.

It is easy to understand why.

Mississippi State paid Toledo $1.2 million to play there in 2024. And incidentally got killed.

The University of Louisiana-Monroe got paid $1.i5 million for a buy game against Auburn last season.

Also in 2024, Tennessee paid Kent State $1.35 million to play at Neyland Stadium.

These are the going rates for buy games these days against MAC schools. With our relatively low ticket prices and relatively small capacity, we cannot compete with these offers.

Not sure about 2 for 1s but here are the scheduled P4 home games the next three seasons for each MAC team...

Akron- None
Ball State- None
Bowling Green- Iowa State
Buffalo- None
Central Michigan- None
Eastern Michigan- None
Kent State- None
Miami- None
Northern Illinois- None
Ohio- West Virginia
Toledo- None
UMass- None
Western Michigan- None

The ENTIRE conference over the next 3 seasons has a combined TWO P4 home games.

*I only chose 3 years because several teams do not have more than that schedule out. A few didn't even have 3 full yet.

*Northern Illinois is only in the MAC one more year. But even so they do not have a P4 home game scheduled.

I know this is Rutgers and they ain't smart, but they just bought two home games with Kent State at $1.5M each. They have the same issue when it comes to attendance and ticket pricing. Although they have B1G money. Although II if they are spending it all on "buy" games, what is the point of B1G money? Which brings us back to they ain't smart.

So that gives you an idea of the costs of a future buy game. So the question, is it wise/worth the money to buy games?

Also going back to... What the heck happened with the ACC ban on G5 road games?

Cost doesn’t matter to the Rutgers athletic department - it’s just a pass thru to the generous taxpayers of the state of NJ

When it comes down to it...

Profit from a home Toledo game + the costs of moving equipment from Cuse to Toledo + costs of a charter flight for all the players = ?

If that ? is anywhere near $1.5M then we shouldn't be playing road G5 games. If it is a decent amount less, then I can understand the decision to not have a "buy" game.

It is too bad we cannot get 50k to show up in the Dome like many of the B1G and SEC schools can. Then it would be a no brainer.

A good question is why the heck does VA Tech play any road G5s? I believe that they are forced to play ODU, but are they also forced to play at ODU? What about the Marshall series? There was no point in them playing on the road for that one.

Recruiting hot bed in Tidewater area...not sure but maybe pressure from the legislative branch too.
