Class of 2016 Transfer Thread

With Malachi, Howard, and Battle, there are two guards and a SF in there. Need a 3rd guard either a pure PG or a sick shooter to play 15-20 mpg.

Yep. My thought as well. Would love to find a Andy Rautins type. Have not seen tape of Barry's kid playing (I think there's one up this thread), but I would imagine he might be a really good fit.

More than any year, next year is the year JAB needs to go the grad transfer route. I'm very skeptical that he will, just because he's stubborn when it comes to changing his mind on things like this, but if we can find a 3 point specialist, or another warm blooded big body, it would be stupid not to go all in. IF Malachai returns, and Roberson sticks around, we have a chance to be very very good next year. We should have at least 2 - 3 scholarships to play with and it's too late to get any Freshman that can contribute so there wouldn't any reason not to bring in a grad transfer or 2.

Battle
Malachai
T-Rob
Lydon
Chukwu or DC
--------------
Howard
PC/DC
Moyer

All I see missing out of that is a 6 man that we can count on to come in and give some scoring, another shooter, and some depth upfront.

Lydon While I agree with the premise, the big take is Jimmy's stubbornness. He thinks he is ALWAYS right and that is a condition not easily corrected for someone his age.

If Kaleb leaves after this year I mean this guy is such a good fit I hope the staff is looking at a grad transfer.

We need another SF badly. Right now Malachi is the backup SF with Lydon. I don't see Moyer giving us the shooting as a Freshman we need from the SF if Lydon isn't on.

This kid just fits everything we need. A role player who can stretch the D.

IF Joseph leaves, I would love to see us add a 5th year transfer point guard, or a sweet shooting small forward. This kid would certainly fill the bill of the latter.

I share your concerns about the 3 next year, although I think we're going to see either Mali or Battle play there a lot, with Frank at the 1.

Only problem I see is he's an honor student at the second best school in the world for mathematics. Syracuse does not have a great Dept. I would guess it matters in his case.

Well, I don't think he's transferring for a better math program. And he's from Montreal. Syracuse has had a little bit of success with small forwards from Montreal in the past.

Hey Francis03 how about this transfer? Not sure he could be that PG we need, but interesting name.

Interesting option. Strange career path at Fordham. Averaged 17 ppg as a freshman, but shot at a low FG%, then minutes dropped in half his next two years and only averaged around 7 ppg. He would add guard depth, but I would figure he's looking for a spot where he can play a lot of minutes and regain his freshman year scoring stats.

Very talented, but maturity is an issue. Don't think he could last at Cuse w/Boeheim.

I really hope we go after a 5th year..could make a special team..even more

Going to be interesting to see how the grad transfer market plays out this year. With the new NBA rule in place where kids can declare, go to the combine and return to school in late May, I wouldn't expect too many of these transfers to make early decisions while they wait to see actually does go back to their schools...

There are a ton of kids that have transferred previously w/1 year remaining of eligibility. It'll be interesting to see who may be interested in taking advantage of the rule. Brent Bisping at Siena has another year left after a redshirt. Others who have 1 year of eligibility that could help if they want to step up the competition from nearby schools: Brian Bernardi, Hofstra (40% 3pt shooter); Khallid Hart, Marist (20ppg scorer, 38% from 3, 85% FT); Phil Valenti, Canisius (14ppg, 6.5reb, 39% 3pt, 6'7" WNY kid)...Not sure any will be grad transfers, but would be worth a look if they decide to go that route.

I think for someone to want to transfer they would need to be in a special situation. A new coach perhaps or a team that is rebuilding. Or possibly someone who wants to try their hand at big time D-1 ball. Otherwise if I was a coach at a mid major (like Jimmy Patsos from Siena) I would be real upset if Brett Bisping left. He is an important piece to the team. The part about going to a school for a grad degree that your school doesn't offer is a real sham. I would guess that only a small percentage would take advantage of doing it for that reason.

Don't redshirt kids. I don't blame kids for leaving if they have gotten their degrees. College athletics is skewered totally in the coaches and schools favor. If a kid wants to transfer they should be able to go wherever they want without sitting out. So I don't blame any kid for leaving especially if they have gotten their degrees.

You're right about not redshirting a kid. But what if this years team didn't have G or Cooney on it if they had transferred out. It's almost not fair to the program either. It's a great rule but a crazy rule. Almost like free agency for 5th year players. I'm not saying they shouldn't take advantage of it, but it's crazy.

Interesting name from a post above: Khallid Hart (6-2, 180) from Marist. Played at the same high school as Trevor Cooney in Delaware. Averaged 20 a game with pretty good percentages on a bad Marist team. Not sure what his situation is in terms of graduating, but I'd have to think he'd be decent option if the staff wanted to go this route.
