Class of 2016 Transfer Thread

He actually had a better game after in the chip against Louisville.
Yeah, he only played 4 minutes against us. He still made his mark draining two 3's, but he had 17 in the 1st half against L'ville in the championship in one of the all-time out of nowhere performances. He actually went 9-10 from 3 in that tourney.

after our game, I repressed the pain and stopped following. You're right though, he was hot in that final too.

The two 3's he hit in that one made Perrantes 3's look like layups in comparison. Dude was hitting near from where the half court final four logo was located.

Francis, how would you compare the games of Mali and Battle? Do their skill sets match up?

Oh yes. Battle is a terrific slasher and willing passer. Doesn't shoot it well from deep like Mali, but is more athletic and should be able to get to the line a lot. If both play in the backcourt together as JB has suggested, I think you'll see Mali get plenty of open looks on the perimeter with how well Battle can collapse the defense driving inside. Also worth noting that the two grew up together playing on the same AAU team. So some chemistry has already been built.

Hey, Francis ... so good to see you back on the board in full swing here. Your pods have been great, and what looked like a bummer season has turned amazing with this tourney run.

Here's a recruiting question that is a little off-thread (not a transfer question): Hearing that PayPal has been visiting our boy, Taurean lately, I'm wondering if Thompson's list now includes UK. And do you think SU's run to the FF this year makes us look more attractive, or is it really about where Thompson would fit in at the 'Cuse personnel-wise?

Thanks for checking out the pods and for the kind words.

Haven't heard about PayPal visiting Taurean, maybe you're talking about Nick Richards? I think this run will make us attractive to a bunch of recruits that might not have even considered SU before. Taurean's mommy is running the show on that one. So I guess whatever she green lights, will be the school that he'll attend.

Ok, thanks. Hopefully, Taurean's MOM has been following our success too.

Its beanery thoughts that a big time big man sitting behind Chuckwu would be the final piece of the big puzzle for next season's run to the FF and championship game and that may be correct BUT looking at the pg situation after both Gbinije and Trevor leaves putting a lot of pressure onHoward . Maybe the pressure best down Kaleb when he jumped here after Ennis Maybe there big time spotlight was too much for his psyche.W can hold out hope that another off season soon coming might be enough for him to pull himself together and play up to the expectations of the coaching staff and the real judges of talent us the fans. If that were to happen along with Taurean we will be the odds on favorite to be back in the FF andNC game next March.

Hey Francis03 how about this transfer? Not sure he could be that PG we need, but interesting name.

Interesting option. Strange career path at Fordham. Averaged 17 ppg as a freshman, but shot at a low FG%, then minutes dropped in half his next two years and only averaged around 7 ppg. He would add guard depth, but I would figure he's looking for a spot where he can play a lot of minutes and regain his freshman year scoring stats.
Jon Severe now off the board to Iona, according to reports.

Not even sure he was going to be a grad transfer. He might be a sit and play for one guy, which is the absolute worst. But something Iona does quite frequently.

EDIT: Rothstein reporting he will be eligible next year. We'll see - he's been wrong before.

Michigan, California, Syracuse and Hawaii are among the schools that have contacted Columbia grad transfer Grant Mullins.

I have seen Mullins play a bunch of times, living in NYC and being a basketball guy.

Can shoot the 3 and can penetrate/dish. Smart player (as you would expect coming from Ivy League). Defensively is a little frail compared to most of the guards we bring in, but he's probably 6-1/6-2 and shouldn't be a killer - especially if he's playing 15-20 minutes a game.

He is an ideal backup PG at SU's level who can come in and provide stability and a steady hand. Would not mind this move at all. Cal/Michigan are good schools though, good grad programs. SU has a few too, not sure what he's looking for.

6'3 PG, 43% from 3, 2-1 Assist-TO ratio. Would be a solid addition for PG depth. Like I said before we don't necessarily need a star when looking for a 5th year. Just somebody that can provide some quality minutes and not be a complete mess out there.

How many available scholarships do we have left for next year? A guy like Mullins would take up one of the schollies right, or am I dumb?

Would it make sense to use the schollie on him (assuming everyone else returns) or are we better off saving it for a big guy? Or is the assumption there will be another one that opens up, by hook or by crook?

In general, it seems like he'd fit as a 4th guard very well, would also allow you some flexibility if you want to move Malachi to the 3 for some periods. I don't know Moyer's game that well, but for instance would about a spaceing lineup with Mullins/Battle/Malachi/Moyer/Lydon. Could have a ton of shooting on the court.

Honestly, if everyone is back that should come back and Joseph leaves, I'd use one scholarship on a 5th year guy that could make an immediate impact like a Mullins, and then use the other on a transfer guy that has to sit out a year a la Gbinije.

I'm not sure how much a guy like Taurean Thompson is going to help us next year if we have Coleman/Chukwu/Lydon along with Roberson/Moyer/Richardson available along the backline. Battle/Richardson/Howard/Mullins would be just fine. Also not sure we get a guy like that given our depth.

And I'd prefer them not reach for a guy like Obokoh, who has given next to nothing to the program on the basketball court (nice enough kid I'm sure - not commenting on that. Strictly basketball talk only.)

Michigan is after him too. His hometown of Burlington, ON Canada seems to be almost equi-distant between cuse and Ann Arbor, if that makes a difference at all.

A backup PG who can shoot that only ties up a ship for one season would be huge when we are losing 2 5th year guards and handing the reigns over to a freshman and two sophs.
Absolutely ... we're losing 2 outside threats, and bringing in a great athlete whose speciality is slashing and driving. Clearly, the staff's looking around and thinking .. if they face guard Mali, where are our outside points going to come from next year without G/TC.
