JB and staff did what they needed to do to close with Battle. Battle might have played some 1 if Mali had returned, and if we hadn't landed Gillon. Now, the team needs him more to play off the ball and to be a scorer, and fortunately he has transcendent offensive capabilities [as Tomcat puts it] where he'll thrive in that capacity.

Whatever the circumstances were during his recruitment, things have changed.

If part of how we lured Battle back from Ann Arbor was a promise to play the point, I think JB has to try to convince him that with the roster we have now we would be better positioned to win if he played off the ball and we put the ball in Gillon's hands. The problem I think he needs to be careful of is getting a reputation of promising kids one thing and then not delivering.....or maybe given the fact that he is retiring it won't matter?

I am astounded by the lack of Franklin Howard respect in this thread. Gillon starting over Howard at the point? Seriously? He is our best option at the point. Battle is a combo guard who could end up being a real good pg option down the road. Howard is a huge key to our season. His jump from year one to two is apparently going to shock a lot here.

Gillon is a 5th year player who's a proven commodity, Battle is a top flight recruit, if we get White then we have a top flight shooter. It's not a discredit to Frank but he should be 4th behind all of them. I think the overrating of Franklin is a little out of control, he's envious of Bus Pattersons shooting numbers at this point and even his A/TO ratio wasn't even that great.

But if they get him, the team will get a huge amount of credit with all the games they will likely win. I see this team as 2011-12 all over again.

It really could become 2011-12 all over again. When i first started thinking about the possibility of landing White, i thought about whether next years team would most resemble the 2010 team, 2012 team or 2013 team in terms of makeup. But i think you are correct it would most resemble 2012 team, especially in terms of depth . Both teams might have 7-8 guys who could start for just about anybody in the country (altho i guess you could say the same thing about the 2013 team). Just think, right before Gillon committed, most thoght we would be unbelievably thin. Now, if we get White, even with losing Mal, we would be pretty stacked. Go Cuse!
