Trebor Pena transferring to PSU

Holy crap. This might be the most tone deaf post in social media history.

Did he or his agent read the paper?!?!
Spin baby spin

Get that bread Trebor. You got a degree and had one hell of a year. Put a good price tag on your health and commitment. Your short term and long term health is worth it.

(Football only opinion because this sport is a killer and feel this way about all our football transfers but even stronger about one that got a degree)

I missed the boat here! Dude asks coach...how do ya know our QB will be good? Ummm, hmmm. Well dude, how do you know that you will be successful somewhere else...dude, you had 1 good season. dude, i made you captain and if you Dart you will be #1 here, trust our coaches that gave you your only good season... Are you listening? umm $ ? dude, you gotta go...
Next...
I respect Fran even more now for not being a NIL sucker.
Having 1 good year here and establishing yourself and then hopping to a factory for a lil more $ and putting your future at a much bigger risk?? Based on evidence in football here, IM ALL ORANGE if they did what they could $ wise even if less. bla bla BS betting on yourself, ?trust a typical college coach? not many.
I mean these factories remind me of a slut...Im not gonna marry a slut.
Girl ya gotta show me something like a good personality, when you just plop them things on the bartop im not giving you a future...future? Im not giving you more than 8 minutes with these...

Potentially looking for a job at UPS.
Where else do you get the Fran Guarantee?

OK, but Ill be betting my future on the coach that helped me ball out. I am a betting man and Im not even leaving this situation for an unknown for a few bucks.
Pffft...Im doubling down on Cuse!

Blah blah blah.

These boiler plate portal goodbyes have replaced the equally trite "I'm on to my next adventure" posts on LinkedIn as the most obnoxious, self indulgent nonsense on the Internet.
He will be the concept of DART for the rest of his life because of Fran just not CCT for SU. CCT “Do you care? Are you committed? Can I just you?”

Beck himself said he doesn’t watch football in his spare time and it was strictly just film sessions. He and McCord are not the same.
Yep. They’re not even close. Beck is brooding and far from the all-business, adult leader role that McCord owned. Going to south beach after a girl and the most money versus going to Syracuse kind of tells you what you need to know.

There is some real weirdness here. Pena did his job last year. Did it very well. He has what he sees as a better opportunity for now and in the future. He fulfilled his obligation.

Key employees leave jobs all the time. It’s the organizations job to back fill, not Peña’s.

I know that I am outraged by the timing of his decision.
Waiting till after the spring game.
Virtually spitting on being a captain.
Taking field time away from those WRS who were actually going to be here.

There is a decent way to leave a team thru the transfer portal.
This is so not the way.

It doesnt always work out financially either.
Supposedly Iamlaeva ended up getting less from UCLA than he was getting from Tenn.

One way or another, it was a life changing decision/gamble by this young man.
And it really hurt SU. So not DART!

I get that all these guys need to look out for themselves, but I think they’re missing something. Prominent college players often get financial benefits from their association with their school. And if you value non-financial benefits, there’s lifetime adulation from fans of your school. These guys who spend 3-4 years at one school and then bolt for a payday for their last year of eligibility give all that away. The school they left doesn’t think of them as one of theirs (unless the kid won a national championship there) and the new school doesn’t have any strong feeling for them (again, unless they won a national championship).

Most here probably know little to nothing about European soccer, but this is like what happened to Robin van Persie. He was at Arsenal for nearly a decade. Hurt a lot early in his career and then was the best striker in the Premier League for a couple of years. His teams were very good but no titles. Then he forced his way out at the end of his career and spent two years at Manchester United, where he helped them win a title in year one and was terrible in year two. Once he retired, he, unlike a lot of great footballers, had no grounds to go back to as a club legend and he couldn’t understand why. Arsenal fans viewed him as a traitor and Man U fans viewed him as a one-year rental.

I lol at his farewell. What a joke!

There really isn’t. Even with leaving jobs, you can be the guy that gives a month notice and wants to make sure there is a smooth transition, train your replacement / direct reports and make SOP’s or you can be the guy that gives 2 weeks and checks out from Day 1. There’s a difference between a guy that wasn’t going to start here wanting to go elsewhere to be able to do that for their last season and a guy who already accepted a Captain’s role bowing out at the last possible moment he could.

Are you obligated to be the first guy? No. And yes we’re all free agents, but how you leave does matter.

The problem I have with Peña is the timing of his decision. Not a team player.
