I’m about 99% he didn’t have an offer and people were just in his ear about what he *could* be offered. What is ideal timing? When the other school offers affects timing

True but what if he doesn’t. What if he ends up signing for the same amount or slightly more or slightly less because a firm deal was not struck. That would be a waste. A travesty if you will.Everyone is just bitter. If he’s got $2mm locked up he’d be an idiot to not take it…
I might be the only one, but to me DART’s just a slogan. I mean if it helps some guys get their act together, that’s great. He will be the concept of DART for the rest of his life because of Fran just not CCT for SU. CCT “Do you care? Are you committed? Can I just you?”

But every coach has a slogan. And they’re cool as long as the team is winning.
For sure. Every successful coach builds culture is a purposeful way. So I’m certainly glad to see Brown has that.DART is definitely a slogan.
That said, it doesn't mean there isn't an attitude behind it. I think it's an attitude and work ethic Fran has had for a long time and we all know what it's like, DART is just an easy way to reference it. He tried to sum up his attitude in a few words, but in reality it will probably need a book to explain. We may just get one one day.
It’s possible my years of enduring similar corporate organizational jargon has made me cynical.![]()
I’m just stunned by the entire situation. For Fran to flat out say to him that he’s got to go was likely the hardest thing he has had to do in his coaching career so far.Easy advice to follow.
Don’t make a big deal/announcement of your return.
Don’t take a captain position.
Don’t cast doubts on your QB and team to justify your decision on the way out.
I hope he gets the big contract and has a good year, because he just flipped the script on his otherwise positive public profile.
This gets confusing if you’re thinking this is about Jason Beck, former cuse QB coach.Yep. They’re not even close. Beck is brooding and far from the all-business, adult leader role that McCord owned. Going to south beach after a girl and the most money versus going to Syracuse kind of tells you what you need to know.
Kind of going with my gut here, but the more I’ve analyzed this situation and pieced together data points from third parties that would know, I feel like the scenario was Pena getting outside advice from third parties that his NFL potential draft stock would drop without McCord here due to a lack of targets and that Syracuse needed to pay him more NIL to mitigate that risk or he should go to a higher profile program elsewhere, even if for the same NIL. Just the way this has all hastily and sloppily played out makes me feel like that’s the likely scenario.Easy advice to follow.

Isn’t it his business on how he deals with his career risk?True but what if he doesn’t. What if he ends up signing for the same amount or slightly more or slightly less because a firm deal was not struck. That would be a waste. A travesty if you will.
It’s his North Star mission statement of the visionFor sure. Every successful coach builds culture is a purposeful way. So I’m certainly glad to see Brown has that.
I just think people get a little carried away with the “dart, dart, darty dart dart” stuff.

When did he cast doubts on the Qb?Easy advice to follow.

Fran mentioned Pena was questioning wether Rickie was good enough and fast enough to play this year. When did cast doubts on the Qb?
Why don’t we put a pin in this and circle back. It’s his North Star mission statement of the of the vision
Right, his coach disclosed a private conversation, Peña never publicly put the Qb on blast.Fran mentioned Pena was questioning wether Rickie was good enough and fast enough to play this year.
What message does that send to a team when a captain says I'm leaving because I think you are wrong coach about who the QB should be? Hey, this is Pena's life. Not anyone's on this board. He has to do what he thinks is best for himself . And had he done this back in Dec., I don't think anyone would have had a problem with it. Or they shouldn't have. But he did accept being a captain. He did say yes to the deal he made with the team and the school. He did take up a space in the teams plans during the spring.Right, his coach disclosed a private conversation, Peña never publicly put the Qb on blast.
There wouldn’t be any message to the team if Brown had kept it private. What message does that send to a team when a captain says I'm leaving because I think you are wrong coach about who the QB should be? He’s a captain, that bridge was crossedRight, his coach disclosed a private conversation, Peña never publicly put the Qb on blast.
Really? You believe that Pena kept it to himself, he didn't say anything to any teammates on what he thought of Collins? You really believe that? Did Pena handle this the way you would advise your kids to handle the same exact situation? Yes or No.There wouldn’t be any message to the team if Brown had kept it private.
Peña knows more now than he did in December.
What’s that got to do with anything? He’s a captain, that bridge was crossed
I have no idea, and neither do you.Really? You believe that Pena kept it to himself, he didn't say anything to any teammates on what he thought of Collins? You really believe that?

Is there any evidence he had a similar conversation with anyone but the coach? You can’t push a string; captains lead by example.
Questioning the team strategy in relation to personal stats is a behavior a captain ought to squash in other players, let alone engage in themselves.
I was honestly shocked that came out. I was one of the people saying it’d be ridiculous if that happened. But evidently it did.
You can only follow DART at SU? Hmm.“I will be DART for the rest of my life”
