Kind of going with my gut here, but the more I’ve analyzed this situation and pieced together data points from third parties that would know, I feel like the scenario was Pena getting outside advice from third parties that his NFL potential draft stock would drop without McCord here due to a lack of targets and that Syracuse needed to pay him more NIL to mitigate that risk or he should go to a higher profile program elsewhere, even if for the same NIL. Just the way this has all hastily and sloppily played out makes me feel like that’s the likely scenario.

What message does that send to a team when a captain says I'm leaving because I think you are wrong coach about who the QB should be? Hey, this is Pena's life. Not anyone's on this board. He has to do what he thinks is best for himself . And had he done this back in Dec., I don't think anyone would have had a problem with it. Or they shouldn't have. But he did accept being a captain. He did say yes to the deal he made with the team and the school. He did take up a space in the teams plans during the spring.
There wouldn’t be any message to the team if Brown had kept it private.
