Trebor Pena transferring to PSU

Being a small market team if the money ball route is the direction we have to go he’s a guy I’m fine with losing anyways to be honest. It stinks but if his offer is really that big he is nowhere near the guy that is worth breaking our back for. We have more talent and depth at that position than we’ve had in a long time. Save the big bucks for a game changer at a key position not a 5’9 WR that is dependent on the QB to have an impact.

If this is true I think it sucks.

Hopefully it's not true.

This is why we should’ve offered Kyle $10M to stay this year. We would’ve made the money back.

Sad, thought he’d be a leader on this team. Sure was wrong.
Yeah...I'll be honest. I am usually all for players doing what is best for them and making money to change their life. But this one has me really fired up. We stuck with Trebor through every challenge he had, and Frans trust and belief helped him to have his greatest season here by a mile.

If Trebor was looking for money and going to transfer, he should have done it before Spring ball (many credible reports of teams offering him huge money back then, so he could have). Going through all of spring, as a CAPTAIN, then bolting is really shitty and disappointing. I'm sorry but I certainly will not be rooting for him wherever he goes.

team captain bagged to a in conference opponent. Wish him well, hope has has -100 yards against us and 10 fumbles
I do not wish him well. I hope he fails in all future endeavors. Our program will never take that next step if our key players care more about a bag than loyalty. Literally named a team captain and you dip after the freaking spring game? I do not wish him well in anything.

This one hurts. And confuses me. Really expected him to finish up here. NJ connection...beloved. And I thought the NIL was there.

I don't know if it will matter at this point, but I'd get every NIL fairy I could find to donate to try to get him to change his mind.

Makes sense, on paper. Kid put up video game numbers, playing with the best passing QB in college football last season.

He is an NFL prospect, in the vein of Restrepo, but his stock could potentially be impacted if he doesn't have a big senior season. Maybe he didn't like what he saw from our QBs this spring.

Sucks.

This is my perspective as well. As Jeremy said, this is mostly solvable with contracts, which hopefully are coming. That's the way the real world works -- you want the guarantee of money, you sign a contract.

This puts Fran's DART to the test.

He's been quite vocal that if you go behind the staff's back and want to reach for that bag they're going to just put you in the portal anyway.

Now you have arguably your best veteran player that's been given the responsibility to lead the team has put him to the test. He can keep the culture or lose a big talent.

I expect he will use this as an example of what not to do for his team. That will hurt the talent level short term but if the players, fanbase, and big donors believe in Fran and DART they will also trust the staff to use the money wisely to reload.

Since this is a Spring move i wouldn’t be surprised if he was a bit concerned about our QB situation. If we are where Fran currently states we are as far as NIL, i’m not sure who on this team deserves it so why wouldn’t we make sure Treb wasn’t leaving because of $

I get wanting more money. I also think Syracuse needs to minimize the NIL gap still. But how do you be named captain and get a pay raise and then spring comes around and you decide to leave then.
This is where I am, if this is true it’s ultimately selling out. All of this is gross and I don’t blame the kid for wanting to get paid. But gross, so gross.

He was great last year with Kyle and strong receivers around him. This year would have been a different story.
If he was out highest paid guy that was for past service. Slot receivers can't be your top earner.
agree completely on both.

I think we could have Josh Allen at QB and kids would still bolt for a few extra million. The same way NFL WR's leave good QBs every year for guaranteed cash elsewhere. I think we need to avoid looking at this any deeper than "SHOW ME THE MONEY"

I guess the question is how much is more money

That position cant pay a ton unless you have an unlimited budget.

lol this has nothing to do with the QB situation. Stop that
Correct. The “maybe he didn’t like Rickie” takes are giving me a belly laugh.
