Trebor Pena transferring to PSU

Correct. The “maybe he didn’t like Rickie” takes are giving me a belly laugh.
Why? He apparently got a huge NIL deal and turned down numerous offers and then decides to leave after Spring practice after being named captain by Fran. He seems the camaraderie of the guy who left last year sticking around to work out in SU. Now he knows he’ll never be part of that but the only reason he’s leaving is because he went from a lot of money to a lot more money? I’m not buying it no matter what anyone says. I’m sure 2 things could be true. He knew he was taking a step back even if Collins is decent and he’s getting more money, but the spring move tells me he wasn’t thrilled with what he saw during camp. None of us have seen Rickie perform n a regular basis except Treb, so where is the blind confidence coming from? People act like Syracuse turns out good quarterbacks on an annual basis. McCord made a lot of bad memories go away.

This is college football now. I blame the weak, ineffectual, incompetent NCAA for destroying the sport. There was never a plan or contingencies put in place to forestall this kinda thing from happening.
The players now have their chances to cash in, and honestly you can't blame them for exercising it.
Yes, it could've been handled more delicately but someone obviously tossed a big bag at him, and Pena rightfully accepted. This is likely life-changing money for him and his family, & as a college kid in his position, I wager we all woulda done the same thing.

There will likely be others too. Is what it is. Can only overcome the money deficit so many times.
Same goes for our coaches as well. Though we are probably out of the woods for this season atleast of any more losses. It really sucks. Losing Pena and in this manner especially is just a tough look. No wonder the emphasis in the facility opening press conferences about needing corporate money.

Gotta think between Russell, Jameer Thomas and Julian McFadden one of them is the likely replacement for Peña. All quick and fast and can play in the slot and stretch the field
Darius “Boobie” Johnson is definitely gonna get a lot more snaps.

He was also Trebors backup on punt returns.

and the plus side is we now have the money that we would have paid Pena to spend on a greater need. I don't think this has anything to do with the QB by the way but it could also have to do with three things. Money. Money. And playing for a team that has a legit chance to win.

Cool nickname, not even gonna lie.

We can be almost assured we’re not beating Miami on the road.
I am sure you had us beating Miami last year too right.

Reminder of what the narrative and optics were of all that 'star talent' at this time last year.

QB: OSU castoff that many thought would provide a solid/stable game manager type - Nassib Senior year was the unreasonably optimistic scenerio

WR 1: Meeks - A receiver who couldnt break into ANY meaningful snaps with UGA in 3 years

WR 2: Pena - A receiver who never had a healthy or productive year here

WR/TE 3: OG - Coming off a full season off and a severe injury/surgery to his most important body part @ 240lbs

WR 4: Gil - Unproven Sophomore

Not to mention the actual WR 1 coming into the season didnt make it past game 2 - Zeed

Losing talent sucks but Fran will have us ready to compete and keep talent flowing, one way or another.

Don't hate the player, hate the GAME.
If you are named a team captain, playing in the freaking spring game, and are just now deciding to dip, I will be "hating" the player. If the life changing money is what you were looking for, then enter the portal once the season ends like everyone else! Plenty of teams would have offered him the same life changing money if he entered then. It's not like his stock improved in the last 4 months. Don't screw over the team and staff that put you on the map and leave them scrambling to replace you.

My fear as well. Rickie could be ok but fans may still feel like he’s chopped liver because he’ll be forever compared to Kyle.

Saw an article earlier this week discussing the transfer portal, which characterized Mark Emmert as the supervillain behind destroying college athletics by implementing all of these poorly thought out changes, and then retiring before the shiz hit the fan.

Sounds about right.

Forget that. Fran should stand his ground and let him walk. Every player of value will
Do it then.
Of course. He is gone and gone for good. Unless he came back hat in hand. What do you do when you hand him more NIL than you already agreed to when every starter on both sides of the ball come in to your office with the same demand? This sucks and it hurts but it is the one position we seem to be really strong at. Spend this money that we were going to pay Pena on something we need and move on.

We’ll be a completely different team this year playing on the road.

We’ve now lost all of our top receivers from last year. People keep saying we’re deep at wide receiver. None of them have proved anything. The first two throws to Russell on Saturday were 50/50 balls and he didn’t come down with either of them. Our tight ends have not proved they can catch the ball on a consistent basis. To be honest, no one stood out on Saturday. Hornsby caught a couple, but no one else stood out. Collins is not McCord either. This team might really struggle to score points. They didn’t go up and down the field on Saturday either.

We have already gone over how we looked heading in to last season. Meeks was no star at Ga. OG coming off a injury. Pena hadn't proven a thing. Gill looked real good against UConn. I think with Pena or without him, next year was going to be a struggle. The schedule is just too damn hard.
