Post was also a week and half ago, so interesting it’s only gotten discovered now. Why is he bringing up this in June after everyone moved on and made amends. Fortunately, for Trebor this doesn’t seem like it will resurface headlines unless Ashley further digs into this. Talk about opening a can of worms leading to distractions.

Franklin surely paid him more than the ZERO Fran was gonna give him,
after he tried to strongarm him into more NIL *after* he’d agreed to a deal, was named a Captain, and had completed Spring ball.

Fran’s response to Peña’s absurd NIL “demand” was along the lines of:

Don’t let the door hit ya
where the Good Lord split ya!

Pena had a great year. I dont think Pena makes or breaks this year at all. I also don't think how he does at PSU makes or breaks his Pro career. He needs to stay healthy and hope teams overlook his size. We might not get 90 out of a player replacing him but me probably get 30-40 out of 2-3 guys who play that spot.

this is how I interpret things

we got trebor more money in the offseason
he started hearing numbers from outside places
he goes to fran to match and fran doesn't do it
trebor leaves and loses his leverage
offers come down
he takes similiar if not slightly more money to go to PSU

there is zero chance hes making 2m like Fran had mentioned in the 'thats the homie from ohio state'

Im sure Pena asked for more money on several occasions, the last probably being after spring ball. I’m sure the drop of from McCord to Collins was extremely noticeable and he tried to leverage himself wanting more money to stay and play when he almost certainly wouldn’t put up similar numbers. By then his leverage is lost and like Fran said he’s a 5’11 180lb slot WR. We don’t have unlimited funds like other places so being smart with how we use the collective is important. He then goes to Penn St, which is close to home, and will have a high preseason ranking, signing for about the same money.

A couple things:

1. He would have been a star at Syracuse. A former captain and exceptional member of one of our best offensive teams in the history of the program. He could have come back his entire life, welcome and celebrated as a star. After both the program and he battled through injuries for 4 years and then have 1 hugely successful season mostly because of an all-time great Syracuse QB certainly stings. We showed loyalty to him, and none was shown in return. I believe we were his only major offer out of HS as well, not to mention he was paid at market, and was named captain. Doesn’t help but to feel stabbed in the back.

2. This shows how far away CFB in general has gone from the initial intentions of name image and likeness. With these collectives it’s now the wild west and nothing more than play for pay where athletes, or their managers, negotiate deals. This has to change quickly before CFB is gone forever.

I don’t wish Pena ill will but I also don’t wish him success. This is no longer amateur football. This is semi-pro, or more so, down right professional football.

It is amazing how after what went down there, they choose that piece of crap to be their coach. I know they had Bill O'Brien in between, but they seem to be enticed by scumbags.

Yup, I also see this as a form of negative recruiting. Franklin is a big enough a-hole to pull crap like this. He knows Syracuse is a player in the region now so he’s going to take this opportunity to take a shot at us.
