1.This is the one thing this team has been lacking since being number one, and a huge part of college basketball.
2. Jim Boeheim's teams like to run a explosive triangle offense and add in some slower isolation. Its textbook Syracuse offense. We add in some fast isolation as well like Dion/Ennis/MCW which can result as part of the triangle offense unlike slower isolation. Motion plays that work are effective parts of the triangle offense as well.
-Also take note, transition isolation usually comes from guards or the three point line. It takes a top 10 nba pick for a forward or center to bring it, unless you have something like a high post backdown back to the basket center like AO. imo, a good recruting tidbit as well.
3.This year our slower isolation players are Rak and Fair. Fair However also plays a role in our triangle offense as well, which makes his game different then those around him. His lob ally-oop pass to Rak, and kickout to ennis for 3 in the first half last game were good examples of this.
--Ennis isolation is more of the explosive nature and being a pg hes still looking to set up a player as well. Thus, his game is also different then others around him.
4.By the numbers...
08-09 Devenvendorf, Rautins, Flynn, really got the triangle offense rolling from the perimeter and off Flynns drive. We got some quick baseline baskets from Harris, rick, kristoff.
09-10 AO, Wes, Andy got the trianlge offense going. Kjo, scoop, rick brought alittle slower isolation to aid it. We beat the Zags with Rautins and Wes taking over off Scoops passing.
11-12 Dion, Fair, KJO, and Scoop ran the triangle together well. Triche gave us some slower isolation buckets in the midpost, and the occasional 3.
12-13- MCW, Fair, Southerland gave us the triangle with Triche giving us the occasional slower isolation bucket. A big part of this was MCW finally stepping up to score in the lane. When we lost Southerland and Mikes scoring against Michigan it made the game very tough. Amazingly, we still almost won the game with some very solid play from Triche and Fair.
10-11 we lacked the triangle offense, and it was a big reason we had trouble in march. Also a big reason we lost to Marquette.
-This team has become more like 10-11 recently, then it has the other four. It needs to get back to triangle basketball with getting a few good looks per possession. imo, our season is counting on it.
5. Cooney Fair and Ennis, have to run a effective triangle offense where we get 2-3 good looks before taking a shot sometimes. We need Gbinije to try to join the triangle offense by shooting more, while Rak gives us some slower isolation on top of his occasional inside position basket.
-I wish G could knock down 3-4 threes a game, even more then Ennis. Not because we wouldn't be as successful with Ennis knocking down more threes, but because Ennis can do alittle of everything well already. It makes us more multidimentional like Hancock was last year for Ville.
