Triche lot of Pine Time

Dion is the best on the top of the zone because of his speed, Triche is a little slow getting out on a shooter. A lot of the threes they made were KJ's fault, he gambles to much and leaves a guy wide open on the wing. Also next time we go on a run can JB just keep the guys in that are hot. He subbed Dion and Keita out at the 2:30 mark after getting up 10 and we didn't score again after. Dion should really be getting 30+ minutes. Another reason Triche didn't play much in the 2nd half is he had two turnovers in 19 minutes
Two turnovers in 19 minutes. Wow! That would be 4 if he played 38 minutes. I'd take that most any day if he had the pts and assists to go with it, which he normally would.
Triche is a much more animated and in your face defender. Dion, as Bees said, tries for the steals and consequently picks up at least 50% of his fouls on reachins. Dion also will just plain stand and look at others defending instead of moving to stay ready. He depends on his quick reaction time which is usually good but too often late. Just watch almost any of our game tapes to see what I mean.

Go watch the game again. It's not always who is quicker if one makes more effort than another. Triche is always active and always trying to get out on the shooters. My point was Scoop and Dion (to a lesser degree) don't put as much effort into it on a consistent basis. That is a fact and why the coaches get all over them about it.

Triche has gotten lazy to at times and not gotten out on shooters let's be fair. But when Scoop and Dion are active (which they have been as of late) they are better defenders then Triche. They are quicker and cause more turnovers. Look at the last few plays in the Wisconsin game their D was suffocating.

There were about three Wisky threes in a row in the second half where Scoop failed to get out on the shooter. I was screaming at the TV to get Triche back in there. Triche's defense in the first half was really, really good.

We must be watching different games then. I think bees' assessment of their overall defensive performance this season is pretty much spot on.

Triche is certainly better than Scoop defensively...but, I think I'd take Dion up top, if I had to choose our best defender with the game on the line. Luckily, there is no need to make such decisions in a zone defense :)

Scoop and KJo make me very nervous in the zone, especially playing so many minutes. I expect tOSU to go at them.

I do agree the last 2 possessions Scoop played hard defense. Go compare that to his effort earlier in the game or any number of games. Turnovers are nice (what did wisky have 4?) but giving up 3 after 3 is not. You keep confusing quickness with effort and effectiveness.

FWIW. and admittedly a small sample size but in the 5 post season tourney games (BE/NCAA)
scoop is now 9-10 at the free throw line and brandon just 4-11.

Dion is the best at making steals because he goes for a lot of them. But that will also cause you to be out of position or leave a guy open. While not as often as Scoop, he too takes possessions off. It's why JB waas going to pul him at the 5 minute mark of the first halve. It's not always about the ability but also about the "want to". Thankfully Dion does make some steals and/or is disruptive at times because players that are always reaching, yet don't disrupt anything, are the worst defenders. Only defender we ever had that could both be disruptive, make steals and also be a great in your face defender was Jason hart.
Rautins was also pretty darn good in the zone

Then why did JB finish the game (last possession in particular) with Scoop in the game and Triche on the bench? He specifcially removed Triche from the game for that last defensive possession.
