Tucker on 44

Good for him. No more needing the approval of past players and families to deem you worthy. With the circus that this has been, a whole new generation will honor the number 34 and his current merchandise won't go out of style:)

Sean is going to break all of their records anyway so if he doesn't get #44 we might as well mothball it permanently.

To everyone associated with the program that now made this another missed opportunity:

Also. It's worth remembering that it isn't famous because Jim Brown wore the number. It became famous as it was handed down from great back to great back.

By *not* handing it to the next great back, it's effectively over as a meaningful tradition.

The best thing fans can do is buy Tucker's jersey number 34 in the future. Don't buy anything with the number 44. It's meaningless as a number to anyone outside of local fans.

Nice job Syracuse. Another great example where you maximized an opportunity to bring attention and dollars to this program. Ship has now sailed and you have nothing to show for it.
What significant dollars did the program loose outside of Tucker maybe getting more Jersey sales?

Reality is that Tucker would elevate the number for a dying program with a dying history. The families should be on board with this. Nobody cares about 44 except the last remaining die hards. 20 - 30 yr olds know nothing of SU football except it sucks. This is a way to bring attention to the 44 tradition and the players who wore it. Otherwise nobody cares except a few thousand people.

Hopefully this puts an end to it, he is going to shatter all of their records and go down as the best RB in Cuse history. I have no idea what he’ll do in the NFL, but if we’re looking at just CFB stats, he’s the guy. We’re witnessing history.

Glad we won’t have to listen to Floyd Little’s widow about this any longer.

Are we still listening to Floyd Little’s widow though?

It would’ve brought attention to this program. It would’ve escalated sales of memorabilia that everyone (University, Tucker, likely even families the green lighted decision) would have profited off of. It might’ve even given this program a temporary jolt of momentum that it hasn’t had or deserved in 20+ years.

Look at how BC has effectively honored (and profited) from the red bandana game each and every year. They took full advantage of that and will do so for the next 100 years.

It is a worry. Offering Tucker #44 gives him incentive to stay here. Especially if we lose these next 2 games. If you were Tucker wouldn't you want to play for a team that has a shot at the playoff and has more exposure for NIL? Wouldn't you be intrigued to create a Tucker and Tucker show should Walker go pro?

I doubt the money would have been significant though.
