Tucker on 44

Good for him. No more needing the approval of past players and families to deem you worthy. With the circus that this has been, a whole new generation will honor the number 34 and his current merchandise won't go out of style:)

Sean is going to break all of their records anyway so if he doesn't get #44 we might as well mothball it permanently.
I hope this doesn't...

It is a worry. Offering Tucker #44 gives him incentive to stay here. Especially if we lose these next 2 games. If you were Tucker wouldn't you want to play for a team that has a shot at the playoff and has more exposure for NIL? Wouldn't you be intrigued to create a Tucker and Tucker show should Walker go pro?

He can see how Walker is killing it at Sparty, and is much more relevant there than had he stayed with Wake (who are having a great -for them - season also).

He gone.

Totally agree. I almost shouldn’t post this - his advisors - if he has them (and he should) are likely suggesting he play for a top tier program one more year and go pro. I disagree with this - of course - as he can be absolutely the king of Syracuse for the rest of his life if he stays. But it’s likely out there in the wind. Hope I’m wrong.

I like this decision personally. He’s taking the matter into his own hands, rather than being strung along. I have a slight concern that this might signal a rift between him and SU, but that’s probably unfounded. The powers at be should be kicking themselves because he would have contributed to the legacy greatly.

It would’ve brought attention to this program. It would’ve escalated sales of memorabilia that everyone (University, Tucker, likely even families the green lighted decision) would have profited off of. It might’ve even given this program a temporary jolt of momentum that it hasn’t had or deserved in 20+ years.

Look at how BC has effectively honored (and profited) from the red bandana game each and every year. They took full advantage of that and will do so for the next 100 years.
BC red bandana? Never heard of it, never seen it, don't care.

Way to go Cuse.

Tucker stated “Where I stand on that is basically that I would definitely like to wear it. So if it comes, I’ll wear it. If I can, I definitely will.”
In the words of Ann-Margaret, "Let's make this happen."

This could also be an NIL thing, doesn’t want to be in limbo about what his number will be going forward any longer. To which I would not blame him at all.

Must have told him they wouldn't give it to him... no way they share that $$. That would be the worst decision possible. So...
They would have sold even more #44 jerseys now and in the future. They don’t make more money by not sharing the number for a year, they will make less next year and thereafter.

Hopefully this puts an end to it, he is going to shatter all of their records and go down as the best RB in Cuse history. I have no idea what he’ll do in the NFL, but if we’re looking at just CFB stats, he’s the guy. We’re witnessing history.

Glad we won’t have to listen to Floyd Little’s widow about this any longer.
This may be the least smart thing I've ever read on this board. I love Tucker but stats don't make the greatest. None of the top 5 rushers in Syracuse history are considered the greatest RB in SU history. Joe Morris broke all the records 40 years ago and as great and as loved as Joe was I do not remember anyone ever saying he was the greatest RB in SU history. By your logic Walter Reyes, Delone Carter and James Mungro were all better than Little, Davis and Brown. They weren't.

As far as 44 is concerned very few people ever remember a great player wearing it. Rob Konrad is the only even good player that I can remember wearing it since 76.

So what is the greatest in your estimation; being on winning teams, playing in NY6 bowls, tearing it up in the NFL? I clearly stated in my post I was specifically referring to CFB stats specifically. Maybe it wouldn’t have been “the least smartest thing” you’ve ever read if you actually applied basic reading comprehension.

Must mean he's taking his number with him to...

THE PORTAL !

The problem is in the way you framed the post, leading off with this sentence:
“Hopefully this puts an end to it, he is going to shatter all of their records and go down as the best RB in Cuse history.”

Later you try to clarify, but it really sounds like you are referring to college vs pro stats and that pro stats should be disregarded.

Unfortunate outcome to this situation, that's for sure. Would love to know how that was messaged to him. Someone will need to tee the question up to JW on this one. I am interested in hearing the "why" of the decision.

That’s exactly what I’m saying. I don’t watch the NFL, I only follow college football. What someone does in another league does not and should not apply retroactively to their college career. I’m asserting that the best RB in Cuse history title should exist in the vacuum that is Cuse football. Sean Tucker can’t control which era he plays in, or who his teammates are etc.
