I defender had an Orange player in his grasp when another A Ram came in to hit him I thought that was something done away with If I'm holding you ,you are defenseless while my teammate comes in for the kill.:bat:

The worst call of the game was ejecting that player for targeting.

Horrible.
If I understood the rules correctly, once they reviewed the call, they had to overturn the targeting call AND the penalty. It was an obvious penalty, so they couldn't overturn it.

In that case the flag could have stood as a late hit. That said, I'd have rather they pick the flag up and let the kid stay in the game

It couldn't have stayed as a late hit. It's either pick up the flag and wave off the ejection or keep both in place. Can't have one or the other.

If memory serves the flag was for a late hit, the ejection for targeting.

Normally this call is used when a defenseless receiver is lit up and the flag is tossed because it was thought the WR is hit in the head. In that instance the flag is for targeting and then the ejection corresponds with it, when its reviewed the kid is either found guilty or not, and the ejection/flag stand or don't.

In the event of what we witnessed the other night I would have considered the hit 2 separate infractions a targeting call and a late hit, as such the targeting could be reversed and a late hit stay in place. Now if that wasn't how the refs ruled it on the field, then obviously they can't make that late hit stand. But with the benefits of replay, it was a late hit, but not intended to be targeting the head of an opponent

Agreed. Dungey went down so fast that the defender couldn't lay off in time.

you can have a late hit without targeting. the replay was to see if he hit him in the head or led with his own helmet. still a tough call when the Qb goes down that late
