Which makes me ponder- are GM/Red close enough so GM would elicit assessment from Red on each player's buyin/attitude?

I'm pretty sure Gerry wouldn't take Autry's opinions on players as seriously as he would trust his own film review. It's not like Red knew how to get the best out of any of these guys.

What do you think he means by that statement?

I suspect some hard feelings are at play with all this when a kid isn’t coddled about what the future looks like or gets an assessment they don’t like. It’s part of the game and a part of life when you are getting paid to play basketball this young. It’s a hard thing but it’s the kind of thing you have to do to be in command of the program you are going to run.

to be a good team you need to have 7-10 guys willing to work for things if they are not given spots on the floor. somebody will be coming off the bench and if you don't have 3-4 guys willing to accept that, the talent they have wont really matter.

Betsey spent 90% of his time just standing around the three point line. Towards the end of the season his rebounding improved from dead man to mediocre.

All that being said if a Coach had a giant firecracker to get this kid hustling 110% I think he has a decent amount of talent.

So, am I sorry to lose him ? Just depends who we bring in.

This guy was Bell without the poor attitude and occasional chase down block. Like Bell he didn’t play d, rebound or put the ball on the floor and go to the hole. Like Bell he never pump faked even with guys flying out at him. Should have been a better free throw shooter. We need more than what he gives.

He played like the guy in Rec league that is a good shooter and just floats around the outside waiting for a pass to set him up and if it never comes you dont even know he is out there
A lot of that could be coaching. If the coaches say, "stand in the corner and wait for a pass", it's hard to criticize.

Hate to say but isn’t that a standard Boeheim, Autry, Syracuse play? Chris Bell stood on the side, Nate Kingz and Tyler Betsy always were located on the lower right side of the court behind the three point line waiting to be open and someone to pass them the ball.

Sure hope that GMAC has different plays and players that execute the plays instead of waiting for the ball to come to them.

Parking a guy in the corner is common in the NBA as well. Ideally, you want a point guard that drives and then dishes to the open corner man.

Cuse had a bunch of problems with that play. A PG that wasn't proficient at driving and dishing and guys that couldn't make an open 3. Kingz got better as the season went on, but even he was better from the left corner than the right corner, although I haven't seen stats to back that up.

As geno says it’s not the coach job to motivate
