Tyler Ennis Updates

Smart played well. He really dominated at the defensive end, on the glass, things like that. Tyler Ennis, in that tournament, struggled. He had a relatively poor tournament before he played so well at Syracuse.

MT: Ennis was in to work out for the Lakers on Wednesday. How do you break down from what you saw from him during his rookie season at Syracuse? Pelton: It makes sense now why he started out lower on scout’s boards. His performance at the All-Star Games and AAU and things like that also played into it because he wasn’t as effective in that setting. When you put him in the collegiate setting, he was much better. He really did an effective job of running the Syracuse offense and his turnover rate was outstanding – really low turnovers, a guy that takes good care of the ball and makes good decisions. The questions still center around his explosiveness. His steal rate is very good, but you wonder if that’s a legitimate indicator in his case because in the Syracuse 2-3 zone, some of their guards tended to have inflated steal rates that really didn’t reflect their athleticism.

4) Tyler Ennis, 6-3, 182, Syracuse
Ennis won't turn 20 until late August, but his freshman year showed what he is capable of when he is given the opportunity to be creative with the ball. He has a knack for the big moment and was one of the few Syracuse players who could create his own offense off the dribble. He's not a great athlete and needs to find consistency from the perimeter, but Ennis is a natural leader who is unselfish and will have a game that will translate to the NBA nicely. He shows toughness on the floor, as well, and won't back down from bigger opponents.

Tyler Ennis, the Syracuse freshman point guard from Brampton, is forecast at No. 16 on both lists.

The No. 1 is in line for a three-year $17.3-million contract, while No. 3 can get as much as three years and $13.9-million. For perspective, Ennis at No. 16 would see, at best, three years and $5.5-million, which is the money the No. 1 pick will make in their rookie campaign.

Steals are not a product of playing good man to man defense. Guys with steals read and react or cheat off their man.

16. Chicago Bulls (from Charlotte Bobcats): Tyler Ennis, PG, Syracuse
You may have heard of a guy on the Bulls called Derrick Rose. Actually, if you've been watching basketball for less than three full seasons, you might not have even seen him on the court. His knees are held together with paper clips and Elmer's glue at this point, and the Bulls desperately need a competent backup at the point who is more spry than Kirk Hinrich.
Enter Tyler Ennis. He's savvy and limits his mistakes on the court. This would be the dream spot for Ennis, as he would be going to a good team with an immediate need for his skills.

Tyler looking sharp with the bowtie. Love it!

3. Tyler Ennis, Syracuse
While playing in the Syracuse zone defense, Ennis wrecked havoc racking up 2.4 steals per 40 minutes. He is a smooth ball handler who’s jump shot will do him well in the NBA. I think he has potential to dominate on pick & roll situations and has fairly long arms that will help him sneak passes right past defenders.
