UBuffalo Wild Wings Postgame

The modern game is absolute crap. UB shot 9 straight threes in the last 5 minutes. I'll worry when it's time to worry. This game was like Olympic basketball, UB played like North Koreans thinking they'd be executed if they lost. Most meaningful game for them all year barring a MAC tournament run.
I would like to us to play a game and look like we would be executed if we lost.

UB cut our lead to it’s smallest margin when the starters were in.
Yea it's odd though the. That same 5 played the 1st 4 mins of the 2nd half perfectly. Buffalo was stuck on 27 for like 4 mins and we built an 18 point lead. The bench held up fine through most of the half before the starters went back in.

Then I don't know what happened the final 8 mins the starters just turned into sad puppy dogs and let Buffalo do what they wanted.

Sloppy, soft, finesse team.

If White takes care of the rock he will play a lot. Because, we again have no lock down defenders, questionable rim protection and interior defense, and only Kyle has that junkyard dog persona.

George way too sloppy. Kiyan and Luke sloppy too but lots of good and bad for both. Both have great upside and will contribute.

Betsey looked very good on offense.

Pick and roll looked promising

Overall, especially the second half, it looked a lot like last year.

Freeman will play more 5 than Souare.

I’m predicting a front court of Freeman, White and Betsey will play major minutes against smaller teams.

They were on a run after playing against the various lineups and make several contested 3s during that stretch as well. You are cherry picking with the criticism here.

First impression, that was disappointing. This looks like a Red coached team. And that’s NOT a good thing.

Same crap as last year with some different players. Trying to push the pace on offense, but just doesn’t seem to work. No idea what kind of offense we run in the half court.

Defense looks no different than last season with the same mistakes.

It wasn’t all bad, but don’t really care to highlight the good because I don’t think it overcomes the subpar coaching. I think we are better than last season since we have a player upgrade, but not as good as the Judah Mintz led team in Red’s first year. The team will finish with a record around .500.

Meh
Kind of a definitive take for a "first impression"

Meh

We looked for early transition and then consistently ran a screen and roll/pop continuity offense in half court … Good offense .. Gets playmakers downhill for drive and kick.. Zags successful for years with it .. Google it .. it’s exhibition with lots of new guys .. sure it’s was a vanilla instillation tonight . . Just see what fits with lots of lineups .. Defense was way better than last year ..lots of length .. guys walled up and lots of deflections on Def ..

Okay, credit to red for playing this game on the road. I think we have some very good pieces. Definitely good enough to be a tournament team. The question for me is Red, There couldn't be a bigger question mark. How would he match up with good coaches. Let alone great coaches. I didn't see anything tonight to suggest he can. But we will see.

Guys, it was a glorified scrimmage. Team will be pretty good once Red gets the rotations down. Betsy looks to be one helluva 6th man

Only thing that I saw that was a certainty is that Kyle’s free throw shooting is going to be a wild ride all year long. The return of Jeremy McNiel.

“Donnie looked out of sorts” “I hope he isn’t another Benny Williams” 1. An exhibition game before the season does not mean that’s how any player will actually perform. This is the first time they’re playing against another opponent this season, I’m not expecting everyone to look good immediately. 2. Benny and Donnie are 2 very different players, Donnie can impact both sides of the ball and winning in general, let’s pump the brakes on saying he’s another Benny for right now.

First exhibition game of the season with practically a brand new team. Hockey line shift substituting at times. Experimenting with different lineups including guys that won’t really play during the season. All of this makes it difficult to really assess the team and/or make definitive conclusions on what will happen during the season.

My biggest concern is JJ as a senior he needs to be a leader first, and not worry about getting shots. There are a number of good shooters on this team who are better then he is. His shots should never medium range and drives. An occasional wide open 3.

I don’t think we can take much from a game George played less than 33 mins honestly. He is the guy we brought in to run things and be the coach on the floor. This game was another 4-5 minutes from being blown open if it counted but instead Red swapped lineups.

Also- Donnie took about 35 mins to shake the rust off so need to see him now that he’s got his first game back after such a long break out of the way.

Also need to see what we have in Sadiq given the type of player he is and the need defensively.

Im not sure what UB is this year either. Are they the same garbage bottom feeder again ?

yeah I’m no optimist but there weren’t many red flags for me. We saw several long stretches of solid defense. Offensively between some rust and sloppy play - clean that up and this was 80-90 on the board. UB hit some tough contested shots included the late barrage of 3s.
