Uche Izoje named ACC Rookie of the Year

Way to go, Uche!

As prevously stated, she is not able to get NIL $$$ as a foreign player. We have to be creative to pay her. Or know the "tricks" that less honest programs will use to get around that NIL law. It is part of the Visa rules that student athletes play under.
She can’t get Nil, but she’s eligible for revenue sharing.

Actually, she probably is not eligible for SU revenue sharing. It all depends on her visa status, her resident status, any applicable tax treaties, etc., etc. What is actually happening or may be offered depends on whether someone both knows and understands the rules -- the difference between immigation and tax rules -- and is following the rules.

It’s reported elsewhere that revenue sharing is eligible to foreign players. Do you think all the foreign players in Europe are leaving pro leagues to play college basketball for nothing? That’s why they’re are so many 23 year old freshmen from Europe. They are getting paid.

I was not sure if your earlier post was a statement or a question.

To answer your current question: I was once told, "Rules are made to be broken." I was also once told, "It is not a crime if you do not get caught." I have no doubt people can could find a lawyer and an accountant who would tell them, "Oh yeah, just do it this way." "College athletes" have been paid from the very first intercollegiate sporting event. That is well documented and well known. I have no reason to believe that getting paid has ever stopped. And that includes players from Europe. Probably also players from Australia or Africa via Japan.

She is eligible. Remember a couple weeks ago I had a zoom meeting with athletes and reported on all of this along with how to donate specifically to women’s basketball for revenue sharing.

There is a way to pay them NIL for things they do outside of the United States. But the players have to actually be in the country where they are being paid and Uche really can’t risk leaving the US and then getting back into the country.

Sorry not trying to be contentious. In fact, I saved the info in the email so I could donate. I now see, which I missed on the the first read, that she is eligible for revenue sharing. As suggested, the right people can find the right way to do it.

And thanks for all the work and info sharing.

They will be coming for her, and I am not sure we can stack up against the bigger women's programs. One has to hope that more than money is important to her. Also do not forget that she played professionally first, is an older Freshman, and who knows how far she wants to take her collegiate career. I am hoping for a lot of loyalty to Felicia, and just enough money to maker her happy.

This is basically the cross roads where Syracuse decides if its wants to be serious about Women’s Basketball. We have never had a player like Uche Izoje before. Like she is here now, winning these awards and has so much room to get even better. I can’t understate the significance. You have the player on campus you can build around and be a real contender for a national championship for the first time in school history. I know the 2016 run, but that was always UConn and everyone else. You pair Izoje with an elite guard, right now we have good guards, not exactly elite guards, you can be a legit national championship contender. That really is what is on the table here.

She was paid fairly well this year via revenue share. Will be interesting to see if we can afford to keep her.

The women’s GM (Walker) said last week they will take care of their own. We’ll see what that means. She could be a major recruiting piece for getting players from the portal. A great shooter would love a post presence.
The real thing is she can grow into a great player here, but the only coach in America who has continually made his players better i n College is Geno. The others see their players expand their games after they get to the pro''s. Because Geno expects his players to play multiple positions on offense and defense or you don't play.

Is Uche the best basketball player Syracuse has ever had? Mens and Womens?

She is easily the single best athlete that Syracuse University currently has on campus without a doubt.

Cuse needs to find a way to pay her and keep her in Syracuse. She is someone that you can build and develop a program around and other elite recruits will want to play around. She is incredibly coachable and an incredible team player. Syracuse MUST find a way to keep her.
