A once dominate , elite program has declined into a scrub team and program. I hope we never take that route to insignificance.

That was one sweet travel by Kemp.

UCLA has enough transfers floating around right now where if you took them all you could form a Top 10 team. Great job Howland! If he borrows Bhirch from his former team for that all-transfer squad they could win the title.

They're having a tough year, no doubt. Still 3 Final Fours since our last.

Theyll be back

When? They've only had the most talent in the PAC-12 for the past four years and can't seem to even win their own conference. Howland had his run. UCLA won't win big again until another guy comes in, IMHO.

They've hit a rough patch since the 3 final fours, but did you think that fans of other programs were saying the same thing about Syracuse when we went 4 straight years without winning a Big Dance game?

Wow...thats pretty shocking when you put it that way. Seems like that unless you are a cinderalla like GMU or VCU, the perception of making the final four is not as strong if you don't make ot to the final game. I honestly forgot about that run.

IIRC they ever left California during those F4 runs. Still surprising a Howland team has fallen off so much after that run came on the heels of making Pitt relevant.

Interestingly, they have 15 former players currently/recently on NBA rosters. 11 that have left school since 2004 (Howland's first season). Howland is in his 9th season there and they have gone to the NCAA tournament 6 of 8 years ... missing his first season and 09-10. Had a run of three straight Final Fours. Things don't look great for them this year, but its not over yet and the conference is weak. They lost two guys off of last year's roster to early exits to the NBA.

They have two recruits signed for next year ('12) one 5 star and one 4 star. Had a weak class come in this year with only 1 top 100 player. That coupled with the early departures and I think they had some chemistry issues last year may be the reason for their lull.

I don't think they are anywhere near insignificant.

Ucla was tough last year. They gave florida a run for their money in the round of 16 nearly made the elite 8.

They were crushing MSU. MSU came roaring back but UCLA won.

after Howland is fired, maybe Dixon will hire him as an asst at Pitt

Maybe both of them will fall into a bottomless pit of despair and hellishness?

2006 San Diego, Oakland
2007 Sacramento, San Jose
2008 Anaheim, Phoenix

So yes 5 out of 6 were in California. Interesting sidenote. In 2007 UCLA was the #2 seed but got to play the regional in state. Funny thing is that I don't recall any mention of this by the media, much less the nationwide conniption fit that happened in 2003 over Syracuse playing in Albany as a #3 seed.

Because you're making it up?

The only people who cried foul I can recall are Wake Forest fans before their team lost the first weekend.

All of the CBS and ESPN talking heads were talking about how unfair it was. Calvin Sampson (OU coach) wasn't pleased either.

Even if they were, Which I doubt, of course Kelvin Sampson would complain. What would Boeheim do if we had to play, for example Mizzou in St Louis?

For now perhaps, but they are similar to Indiana. They will certainly rise from the dead within a couple years, and once again dominate the Pac40.

It shouldn't be hard to recruit to UCLA.

Awesome history.
Amazing campus.
Right in the heart of LA pretty much.

Cali has a lot of talent, not sure why they aren't getting top players to go there.
