UConn Coming (2 and 2)

Purdue could be a "we should win" like Maryland was.
at Purdue we should be underdog.
At home we should win.

Maryland gets more talent than Purdue since Tiller left.
R. Moore will be gone from Purdue.
Purdue is like the Wake Forest football wise of the Big Ten.
Tiller was a HOF coach who made them better.

Purdue at home we should win.
Ohio we should win.
Notre Dame is a loss.

I would rather play Miami more times in the 2020s than UConn.
With our luck it would be the year Miami is really good again but right now they aren’t.

Playing conference rivals more than UConn in a decade makes more sense.
If we gave them a 2 game series it wouldn’t be as bad as 4.
It’s dumb.
Derisive qualifiers like "dumb" aside, this program is just not in the position to add talent laden teams teams like Miami and VaTech to the non conference schedule over choices like Uconn. Like it or not, we need to be padding the schedule not making it more challenging.

I do not like the 2 for 2 exchange, but I greatly prefer that over the alternative you are suggesting.

The only reason the ACC doesn’t play 9 conference games is because of Clemson and Florida State needing 7 home games a year and with their SEC game and ND game every 3 years they can’t do that with 9 conference games.
The other schools are free to schedule each other in nonconference games.
Wake-UNC did it.
NC State and Duke play this year as conference rivals but Duke wants to schedule a nonconference series as well.

Syracuse should try to get home/homes with other coastal teams.

Syracuse and Connecticut have agreed to play four times between 2022 and 2027, the schools announced today in a joint release. The Orange will host Connecticut in the Carrier Dome on Sept. 6, 2025 and Oct. 3, 2026. Syracuse will travel to East Hartford to face the Huskies on Sept. 10, 2022 and Nov. 6, 2027.

i don’t hate this and I don’t love it.

I am sure we have been working on getting 2 for 1s or home I lied to try and ensure we have 7 home games each season.

If we can’t get these, the next best thing is home and homes with bad programs close to our fan base.

This checks those boxes.

We did them a big solid agreeing to play a road game in November. They are going to have tremendous trouble getting decent opponents to play them at the Rent in November. I think the road trip gets a lot less attractive when the roads is in November. That should have been enough to get a 2 for 1. I think we didn’t do a great job thinking this out and negotiating properly.

We have never scheduled well. The last couple of years have seen the most promising and thoughtful scheduling in my memory. I would be good with a November game of it was a 2 for 1 and would be okay with a 2 for 2 with no games in November.

Bottom line is, we don’t have a stadium and fan base big enough to compete with the big boys to get home onlies and 2 for 1s. I wish we were. I think we are probably going to have to do home and homes a lot for OOC games and given this, it makes sense to play schools near our fan base that we will probably beat.

Many will bitch and moan but I suspect this is the best we can do, at least for now. Maybe as the ACCN revenues spike up, we can be more selective.

I respect this. It’s not like I am sure the other guy will say later in the thread aiming a shot at me. Instead it’s fair assessment even if I disagree personally.

6.5 home games is what we are going to average unless we buy home games.
4 conference home games
1 FBS

Then the last 3 will be 1-1s balanced out unless we schedule 2 for 1s or buy games.
It’s never going to be 7 home games every year unless we do that.

UConn getting 2/2 doesn’t help get 7 home games a year as we are playing de facto 9 conference games those 4 years. It’s a bad job plain and simple.

Surprised by the 2 and 2 but we are all about very winnable non-conference games. On the positive side we are now assured of 7 home games in at least 4 of the 5 years beginning in 2021:

2021 - 4 ACC plus Rutgers, Albany and Liberty
2022 - 4 ACC plus Purdue, Notre Dame and unscheduled FCS
2023 - 4 ACC plus WMU, Army and unscheduled FCS
2024 - 4 ACC plus Ohio, unscheduled FCS with one opening. Needs to be a P5 to fill the mandate and we could certainly use a marquis opponent with no Clemson at home that year. although we do get Miami at home
2025 - 4 ACC plus Army, UConn and unscheduled FCS

2026 is 6 home games with the schedulke now complete.

Yeah. Pass. I’ll take the easy win, every single time.

Dumpster fire job by Wildhack.
Just absolutely terrible job.
So bad.

Luckly for us Wildhack doesn’t answer to you. Good job scheduling 4 easy OC wins against a regional team most of us loathe. A nice consolation prize is we get to take over their stadium twice and administer beat downs that will bounce them back to the FCS ranks.

Everyone saying easy wins let’s a sign a 10 year home/home while we are at it.
If they are an automatic win. Let’s just play them every year. What year don’t we need an automatic win.

Nothing is automatic.

Play a Coastal team in the nonconference.

We are going to play UConn atleast 2 more times than any non-Pitt Coastal team this decade.

That is a joke.
Duke, Miami, Virginia Tech all have 2022 openings.

Such a bad job by Wildhack giving them 4 games.
I also hate winning football games and going to bowl games. Make the schedule harder so we can do those things less often.

What a joke , You can get easy W’s elsewhere. We might as well scheduled UAlbany.

We played Liberty, Maryland, Western Michigan and Holy Cross this year and didn’t go to a bowl game.
UConn on the schedule isn’t going to make going to bowl game any more likely.
This series doesn’t help scheduling in the future.

I think the football team is allowed to run up the score by an extra 2 TDs to get revenge for the basketball team being embarrassed at MSG last year.

I don't mind playing them, but wish it was 1:1 instead of 2:2.

2027 seems like an eternity from now. Cuse may wish it didn't lock in something that far ahead if the football landscape changes

I enjoy beating them. I don't mind this at all.
lets play em in November, give you a shot to be on the positive side of a beat down...

1. Albany is FCS.
2. Who do you suggest besides UConn?

This is Schiano-esqe but as mentioned by others I think its the best we can do. Frankly I am ready for the time when we can challenge ourselves schedule wise, and not sweat the risk of not winning 6 freaking games.

2-1 i was ok with.

not 2 & 2.

i dont need to see storz that often...ever.

Has anyone in the ACC even scheduled a team from the other division as an OOC game?

I think it's ridiculous.

Old Dominion, UNC-Charlotte, UMass.

You give Army a 2 for 2. They deserve our respect. If you play to UConn it’s 1-1.
2-2 is a terrible series. Just play them every year. Our fans don’t need to see them more frequently than Coastal teams if it’s going to be a home/home.
