UConn Coming (2 and 2)

At the least it should be 3 here and 2 there. But I’ll take two and one. Two and two? No thanks.

I haven't got the time to read the whole thread; has anyone set the over/under on whether UCONN will have a football program by 2025?

If they are so terrible (they are) how the heck will the game end up at Yankee Stadium (it won't).
I’m talking about the field that was the old Yankee Stadium.

Notre Dame will be playing Rutgers in the new Yankee Stadium at same time.

I like the fact we scheduled UConn because it makes for a an easy road trip.

My wish is for SU to schedule non-conference games with UConn, Buffalo, Army, Maryland, Navy, and Rutgers. Fans can drive to the road games and the program gets to play games against teams in states where we need to get a stronghold in recruiting.

I’m fine with it. Would prefer 1-1 or obviously 2-1, but I’m not going to get bent out of shape over scheduling a regional opponent.

I dislike UConn as much as the next Orange fan. Though 2-2 is not what I want, so what? Wildhack and Babers are on top of this and if they agree to it, then I will accept it. Babers does not want a Murderer's Row of CFB, similar to SU schedules as an Indy and Big East member. SU is not at the level where they should schedule top 10 SOS annually.

If Babers is willing to beat up the Huskies four times, I am O.K with it. While I loved the games against the big names, SU needs winning seasons and bowl games as a part of the rebuild.

Yes, but...

There’s a distinct chance UConn either isn’t FBS anymore, or even playing football anymore by the time the last of these scheduled games is supposed to occur.

IF either of those things happens, we’re pretty much screwed.

Would be very difficult to find replacement opponents that late in the game.

Sorry to be the Debbie Downer here (on what is otherwise an AMAZING day to be Orange!!), but it is a legitimate risk.

Assuming they’re still around thru ‘27, let’s beat the ever loving snot out of them 4x, and get ourselves 1/6 of the way towards a bowl game each year by doing so.

Purdue at home we should win.
Ohio we should win.
Notre Dame is a loss.

I would rather play Miami more times in the 2020s than UConn.
With our luck it would be the year Miami is really good again but right now they aren’t.

Playing conference rivals more than UConn in a decade makes more sense.
If we gave them a 2 game series it wouldn’t be as bad as 4.
It’s dumb.

You would rather play Miami more than UCONN on a schedule that automatically has Clemson and Florida State?

Dude...

Miami lost at home to Georgia Tech last year.
They aren’t the old U.

i don’t hate this and I don’t love it.

I am sure we have been working on getting 2 for 1s or home I lied to try and ensure we have 7 home games each season.

If we can’t get these, the next best thing is home and homes with bad programs close to our fan base.

This checks those boxes.

We did them a big solid agreeing to play a road game in November. They are going to have tremendous trouble getting decent opponents to play them at the Rent in November. I think the road trip gets a lot less attractive when the roads is in November. That should have been enough to get a 2 for 1. I think we didn’t do a great job thinking this out and negotiating properly.

We have never scheduled well. The last couple of years have seen the most promising and thoughtful scheduling in my memory. I would be good with a November game of it was a 2 for 1 and would be okay with a 2 for 2 with no games in November.

Bottom line is, we don’t have a stadium and fan base big enough to compete with the big boys to get home onlies and 2 for 1s. I wish we were. I think we are probably going to have to do home and homes a lot for OOC games and given this, it makes sense to play schools near our fan base that we will probably beat.

Many will bitch and moan but I suspect this is the best we can do, at least for now. Maybe as the ACCN revenues spike up, we can be more selective.

I think this is a solid take.

And in a world where we play the Libertys 1 for 1, a program with one winning season in the past six can’t dictate as much as we would like.

If we do that then I won’t shed a tear but unless the contract has a buyout its just bad faith.
We signed a deal we should honor the deal. Again it’s Uconn so I won’t complain but the 2-2 is just a terrible deal.

Arnett signed the deal for Syracuse. All good.

Play a Coastal team in the nonconference.

We are going to play UConn atleast 2 more times than any non-Pitt Coastal team this decade.

That is a joke.
You can't just pick a team and tell them you're playing them. No team is going to play a conference opponent as a non conference opponent.

We have a 2 for 1 with Liberty.

Im fine with this.
D1 win
Close away game
In recruiting area
NYC media coverage
Cost efficient
Sure an extra home game is preferable still Uconn checks lots of boxes. I like it.

Yes, Alsacs has mentioned it
So let's say a couple of times in the what, past 10-15 years?

Pretty rare dont you think and might have even been done as a last resort.

Maybe the state of Connecticut will have some players SU is interested in...say a 4 star QB or DT and now they can say you have a game or 2 in your state. Doesn't bug me it's a 2 for 2, just win the darn games and things will take care of themselves.

They already have been.
