UConn postgame

The amount of time left is irrelevant to whether the play works or not. The only issue is if you leave yourself enough time to run all the plays available to you. So with a timeout left how is :30 not enough for two plays? A play near the goal line takes ~5-7 seconds, and you only need :01 on the game clock when the ball is snapped for the second play. So you have :22 to get a play in and get lined up again, or you can take your timeout if you're concerned.
For the most part they are 18-23 year kids who overall as a team on offense played poorly most of the game. They are not NFL players or a math equation. They were playing well with the hurry up offense, better to not mess with the rhythm.

Happy we had a comeback in us.
UConn is not a terrible team. We dodged a banana peel.
We have a team that pulled out a win, but knows they didn't play well.
Hopefully they use this to improve.
Colgate won't tell us anything - unless it's uncomfortably close.
Guys could use some confidence, and hopefully the lines push around the opposition.

Young team. Getting a win helps. They’ll keep getting better. We’re going to lose a game we shouldn’t this year and hopefully win an upset too. That’s what you get with youth.

Might be smart to play Hurry Up Offense mo re often. Angeli didn't appear to have time to look for other receivers . Offensive line needs to improve.
It's harder to get blitz calls in when the offense goes no huddle, you tend to get more generic defensive play calling. Definitely something we should consider trying to take advantage of if the offense is struggling. That, and pounding it with Willis.

Fran must have talked to Mike Messere.

If anyone thinks it's disrespectful get a thicker skin or kick rocks. Fran's first and foremost worry should be to his teams focus and effort among other things. They played like azz today win or lose. Great way to get their attention and it sends a better message than making them run if they lost, or in practice on Monday. It just doesn't have the same impact days later. Good for Coach.
As a West Genny alum, I like the Mike Messere reference. I didn't play lacrosse but I had him for gym class, he was no nonsense.

Is the Robinson hate in here just an automatic reaction?

Thought Defense was the best phase of the game for us today.
It was a lot like against Tennessee. Terrible in the first half and better in the second half. still has way too many 10 yard cushions leading to easy catches.

His 3 man rush is a predictable disaster, consistently.

Second half could’ve been worse if Fagnano could throw and their receivers could catch.

Is it me, or does Connecticut have a long run from the 50 yard line, down the sideline, on that exact formation, every year?

Brown told the team on Monday, after its 45-26 loss to Tennessee, that it would run after the UConn game if he wasn’t satisfied with its performance.

Well, that really motivated them to play well.

Do they practice like crap too?

Where’s the accountability for the coaches?
- No push from the o-line.
- Guys in motion taking all day to get across the formation.
- Too many delay of game penalties.
- Why was David O in coverage 25 yards downfield on 4th and 10?

DaRT

Yeah, that was quite the comment in the postgame presser. Something to the effect of he asked Coach Robinson during the game, "What did we bring David Reese here to do?" It worked, but probably should have been obvious before now.
As I posted last week, he spent the whole game against Tennessee passively rushing, and covering running backs out of the backfield.

Not a fan of Erob. He should not need Fran to point out what our whole fan base could see.

That's fine if you're resigned to running only two plays. But what if there's a penalty (or consecutive penalties) that result in you needing more plays to get it in?

I'd rather just get it done and rely on the momentum shift to energize the defense to close it out (which obviously didn't happen, but still).

Yep, there were some pretty bad coaching decisions today as well. Fran should have lined up and ran with them too

Finally setting Reese on the edge and having him use his speed and quickness to rush most plays is the start of our D getting better. What bothers me is it took Fran to point it out to ER during the week. Fran said so in his presser. I do expect the D to get better as the year moves along. We are a YOUNG team. Our margins are smaller than last year.. Hoping to get to 6W's..could be 4 or 5 though. It appears the culture Fran is setting is paying off as we have come from behind a bunch since he was hired.

It changed the game - he made two big plays and UCONN had to keep the RB in to help block Reese

Two problems on the offensive line today.

1. The offensive line does a nice job on one on one pass blocking. The problem is we are too quick to double, which is why the delayed blitzes are getting home.

2. Angeli is not managing the game based on defensive formation. He is not moving his running back toward the overloaded defensive side or checking out of the play called.

He should get more comfortable doing that going forward.
