UConn Roundtable on Conference Realignment

the very simple way to have done an end around of all this crap would have been to simply split CFB off from the standard conference structure.

create a new mechanism for football and let the schools align for CBB and olympic sports as it makes sense.

I've never understood why we have to be in the same conference for every sport instead of being in a conference with our logical rivals for each sport.

But then I've never understood finance.

It's all tied up in TV dollars. All of the actual on field or court concerns are diluted in favor of eyeballs.

Conferences want eyeballs so they have more leverage for more money. Nothing else matters.

If football eyeballs start going down (concussions drag the popularity of the sport down) to a point where it's second to basketball eyeballs - then we are sitting pretty in an area that values BB in a conference that is probably worth the most (value).

Either way - the ACC is positioned just fine. UNC and UVa are not going anywhere. And UCONN is where it should be: a third tier CFB conference.

(If football doesn't drive revenue or becomes second to basketball - UCONN would be a natural ACC add. But the likely hood of all that is pretty small).

That could be coming . I see an eventual split into semi-pro and "our players have to go to class" sub-subdivisions.

Think of conferences as business partnerships. The schools are partners and split their profits equally. I am sure the ACC and all conferences are registered LLP or Partnerships.
