Umass job just opened up

Zero chance they go after one of our assistants.

Archie Miller if they’ll pay him, Becker if he has any desire to leave UVM, or someone like Bashir Mason or Grasso at Bryant who we all love here. It won’t be an assistant from a program that hasn’t been good in a while.

Edit: only CousCuse “cares” about my UMass opinions but the Borzello piece mentioned Dana Ford and I would love that.

Becker would be a great fit. Umass is a great program w right guy. Travis Ford had it beginning to turn around and left I think mac or red could do it too

Grasso has a high potential upside, IMO.

Sure seems like he'll be a lifer if he doesn't take the UMass or URI job this year
Yeah, but none of us will be surprised if he goes. Comes down to whether he can win a game in the NCAA tourney this year. His team is tough and deep. If they can focus they can win one game.

I mean Pitino is an alumnus.

Rick back at Umass would be incredible. Crazier things have happened.

I remember when there was Bob Knight to Umass buzz in 2001. It was squashed due to his non democratic ways of running a program.

Gmac
Someone will go get him. The Syracuse DNA is something that can be transferred to some extent to a Umass. Wouldn't be good news for us if he's in the backyard recruiting for a school 150 miles away or so.

Dude we all wish GMac the best but if for some miracle he got the UMass he wouldn’t be an issue for us.
If we are going after the same level of kids as UMass we are screwed as a program.

I would want him to do well so when we make a change he could be a candidate.

I want to see if he would do 100% zone and how he teaches offense.

It would be good.
He wouldn’t be a problem for us except we would need another good cop assistant on campus to deal with the current players.

He won’t get the UMass joh. A lower level HC will get it.

A MAAC, NEC, Patriot League job will be the starting spot and then we will see after 3 years at that level.

Our guys aren’t hot enough to start at the A-10 level or higher. Dasher said why.

I think it's only an issue for us if we keep the same infrastructure in place post Boeheim. A new staff I couldn't agree with you more.

Where I think Umass may zag here is they've done the MAAC coach thing and it didn't work out. They've done the retread big east guy (Lappas) and it didn't work out. I wouldn't be surprised if they go a bit more outside the box here. I think the program can be resurrected to some level. Not the Calipari level obviously but something that could be a nuisance to us in the New England area. Again, probably overreacting but i'd watch the SU guys here.

McCall was making 750k per year. Do we know what the SU Assistants actually make? If they are close to 750 then i'm taking everything back. UMass is grossly cheap if that is the number they are paying for a hoops coach

Archie Miller.
He did well at Dayton.
Flamed out at Indiana.
They need a coach like him.
He would rehab his career and probably not be so quick to jump to another job unless it was a fit.

they'd have to pay him which based on McCall's salary isn't going to happen. Great idea though if Umass decides to open the purse strings and pay someone. The school isn't run like a normal state school running D1 sports. Most of the decisions come from Beacon Hill. They need to spend more and they treat Amherst like Dartmouth and Lowell (UMass that is)

If he were to be let go at Washington, would Hopkins be more likely to take a job like UMass or come back to be an assistant here?

Obviously I don't think he is going to be the next UMass coach, just wondering in general what his next move would be.
