UNC Home Game

Is there any chance of that happening? I wouldn't think so, but I guess I don't really know.
Mike Waters' Mailbox last week:

Q: I see that the site for next year’s East Regional is still TBA, because the NCAA would like to have it at Madison Square Garden but ongoing renovations are leaving things up in the air. Should the MSG thing fall through, is the Dome on the list to play host next year?
— J.A.
Waters: The Carrier Dome is one of four potential sites for the 2013 NCAA East Regional. You are correct that the NCAA would like to take the tournament into New York, but there is concern about the renovations at Madison Square Garden.

The four possibilities are the Garden, the Carrier Dome, the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., and the Barclays, which is the arena in Brooklyn where the New Jersey Nets will be playing next year.

If MSG hosts the regional, it will be interesting to see which BE teams are eligible to play there.
I believe the rule is 4 games - if you have played 4 games on a court in a season, it is considered a home floor for you. A few years ago, Nova got to play in the Philly sub-regional because it had only played 3 games on that court that year (in years before and since, they have played more than 3 games there, so they purposely scheduled that season with an eye on playing at home).

I would think that they would have to exempt BET games from that calculus

Regular season, they count tournaments as one game. Post-season tournaments could get the same treatment.

I was at the women's tourney game last night in Bridgeport, CT and saw the UConn women put a 72-26 beatdown on Kansas State (side note: the last three times I've watched a complete game in which Kansas State was a participant - 2011 Pinstripe Bowl, last weekend's hoops game and last night - they've lost, so if there are any Jayhawks or Missouri fans out there, I'm for hire).

The tickets were relatively pricey and I was told that tickets for the UConn games in Bridgeport were the most expensive of any venue for that round of the tournament.

It's all about the Benjamins when it comes to teams and venues. Supply and demand my friends, supply and demand.

Complaining about unfair scheduling by NC and Duke, I'm getting this warm I hate those 2 school feelings a rival should have!

Again people, if you thought the Providence Mafia was bad you ain't seen nothing yet when it comes to protecting the 2 Carolina schools.

I wonder if it's because of their tie in with the NIT?
CTO has been on this for a while. She said that its because the NCAA has to protect the NIT and that being at MSG. I take her opinions as being the truth and the NCAA will only go to MSG if the NIT is affected and the teams at MSG Rangers and Knicks aren't harmed.

And that makes sense, especially to avoid any lawsuits as well.

They can easily work around the NIT. Use this year's setup as an example. They would play the regional NCAA games on Thur and Sat, and have the NIT semis/finals next mid-week.

Now, would the market be over-saturated, leaving the NIT with gates of 5-10K next week? Possibly.

Also, remember: The NCAA owns the NIT now.

I'd be surprised if they were too small to host the first 2 rounds. The arena is about 14k or so, I think. Providence hosted the first 2 rounds 2 years ago with about 11,000 seats.

I'd expect the arena in Brooklyn to become major player in the NCAA tourney.
All I can tell you is that this is what an NCAA official said in an article published in the Times-Union in 2003 while Albany was hosting. He said it was a one time deal and the they would not be returning.

This

and also the one in Newark...I also heard MSG after the renovations. Cuse I think will still be in play for the eastern regionals due to its size...can't hurt a few new motels are starting to be built downtown.

Newark has been a player for a while. It's just that nobody wants to go to Newark.

I don't know too much about the amenities offered in Albany (I was there for the regional final in 2003, but haven't been backstage or anything), but perhaps he was referring to the locker rooms and press facilities more than the seating capacity. Same reason the Dome isn't suitable for a Final Four.
