Unlimited NIL for Scheyer

I think you mean you could not really care less

FWIW.

We define could care less and couldn’t care less on the same page, with the single definition “used to indicate that one is not at all concerned about or interested in something.” We do not put these seemingly disparate idioms on the same page in order to save space, or so that we might cause you pain. We do it because one is simply a variant of the other, and they are used in a synonymous manner.

I want to follow up on that, how much blame does Sheyer take for the last minute of the game? I think minimal but then how long before there are rumblings about his ability to finish the job and win the title if he keeps coming up short?
He should get lots of blame! He apparently did nothing to improve their chances of getting the ball inbounds against the press down the stretch. They kept running the same play and Houston kept getting steals.

Last season he lost to NC State in the E8 in excruciating fashion
This season he lost to Houston in the FF in excruciating fashion

So he needs to lose in the NC game in excruciating fashion before getting over the hump in 2027.

And they still couldn't win it all with Cooper. Amazing how many people don't give Melo the respect he deserves for what he did as a freshman.
For whatever it’s worth, ESPN has him as the best freshman tourney performance of all time. Also, GMac is 18th and DC 20th.

I don't really see the issue. If anything, Duke is to be credited for being proactive, organized and well-moneyed to meet the current moment. If it were us we would all be lauding those who played a role.
In all fairness, three billionaires don’t have to be proactive or organized, all they have to do is write a check for a very small part of their net worth.

just like the kid in school that has the best car because he has the richest dad. Good for him, but he didn’t do anything special to earn it.

And JB for how he molded that team.

That team came an incredibly long way from Memphis to Kansas.

I remember that play and it was a BS cheap shot. But how do we know Sampson sent in a player specifically for the purpose of trying to hurt Melo?
Watch the play again and you’ll get your answer. It was clear as day to me and everyone else in that arena that day.

Still doesn’t prove it had anything to do with Sampson. If I’m ever accused of a crime I hope you’re not on the jury!

While Sampson isn’t a choir boy, folks rooting against Houston because of his past actions (or alleged actions) better not google what Todd Golden has been accused of.
That player barely played and then miraculously checks into the game after Melo has been tearing up Oklahoma….

My understanding is that they are running a hedge fund and the profits are being redeployed into the program. A little more time intensive then cutting a check.

I would think their hedge fund just mirrors existing funds. Anyway, my point is that if Adam W. was still in the fold, and giving us big $, that should not be the reason for a competitive advantage. And nothing to celebrate. I would support a cap per donor so if a team gets an advantage, it’s because their fan base as a whole supports the team, not a few billionaires.

I did 5 minutes of digging just because I was curious. The player had come in 3 minutes before he took the cheap shot. So it’s not like it was his first trip or 2 down the floor. Looks like he played 6 minutes in the game. And he also got minutes in other tournament games that were reasonably close, not just blowouts.

That being said, I can see the suspicion of bringing in a player with no offensive prowess when Oklahoma badly needed points to get back in that game. So I do get where you’re coming from.
Len Elmore was a disgrace on that game. Totally justified the whole thing. Said Melo needs to toughen up or other teams will take note.

It was their only hope. The Oklahoma game was by far the easiest game of the entire 2003 run. The only other team I remember being that clueless against the zone was Indiana with Tom Crean in 2013.
It was 3 minutes after he came into the game. But it was a weird substitution by Sampson given the flow of that game. I’ll give you that.

People were specifically referencing the SEC though and that they were rooting against that conference in particular. Because they have deep pockets and do shady stuff, as if Duke doesn’t.

Also if we need to rely on Duke to make deep runs in the tournament to get Syracuse back to relevance the program is beyond saving at this point.
If you lived in SEC country, you'd understand. Their fans are already insufferable during football season. I don't need that during basketball season too.

Yeah, I agree. On one sports show last week they were talking about how Cooper was trying to do what Carmelo did. I thought that was pretty cool it being referenced even though that it was over 20 years ago.
And they mentioned it on PTI tonight along with Wilbon stating he should have beat LeBron for rookie of the year.

When you have a "core group" of billionaires (that's $$ with a "b") who
do what it takes to keep Duke at the upper echelon, there's no way for a program like SU to compete $$ wise. While there aren't a lot of these type backers, Duke isn't alone. Can only hope legislation puts some rational restrictions on NIL down the road.
The whole system has been begging for adult supervision since Florida made NIL a thing.
