Unlimited NIL for Scheyer

what's new ?duke basketball has had their pick of the top talent for 3 plus decades.

Heard on media that Duke boosters are putting $12-20 million package together to bring Cooper Flagg back next year….

Oh Cooper?!

There was an article about Cooper being the best freshman basketball player in college history. I'll see if I can find it. Kid couldn't win the champ with a squad 5 times more potent than Melo had.
most hyped yes. best no efffin way.

No way is Cooper the best ever. That said, if he was playing in an era where he played for four years, he could work himself into that discussion. I'm just glad dook lost to Houston because it prevents the "best ever" narrative from getting any real traction.

Still makes zero sense for him. He will get a 60 million dollar contract the second he’s drafted.

And even more importantly the sooner he turns pro the sooner the clock starts on his second deal which will be much bigger.

It makes a lot of sense for the marginal players to stick around and make NIL money. It makes no sense for the superstars to do so.

Such a joke. I said this in the final 4 gamethread.

Scheyer has a blank checkbook and has the same results as UNC and NC State down the road. They have different expectations.

Blowing through a garbage ACC is not going to be remembered. Losing by 12 last year to NCstate and blowing the game with the most talented team they will likely see in years Saturday night will be remembered though,
NCAA hoops, best team does not always win. Houston finally slays the NC State ghosts.

Speaking of Duke players….

How the heck are we to compete with a total NIL of less than 5M if Cooper by himself got 28M of NIL?

In today’s NY Post, it was reported that Cooper Flagg received $28 million in NIL Payments while at Duke. That was from 2 sources of money: New Balance and Fanantics. Doesn’t include any other payments from other sources like the Duke Alumni or from other endorsements. Even though he is what some called him a generational talent, I say anything over $1 million (I hate to even post a figure that high) is ridiculous for a 17-21 inexperienced college player.

$28 million could be a multi year payment but still a ton of money. I can see now why players are leaving the NBA draft and returning to play another year in college.

Can’t see how any(every) college can compete in this type of environment. If this continues even as the exception, I can not see how college sports can survive

I see you didn’t read the thread. I don’t see how this has anything to do with the schools. Any brand can sign any kid to an endorsement deal regardless of where the player plays. It has zero to do with Duke and everything to do with Flagg being a generational prospect.

Lol no
Melo, Michael Beasley, Anthony Davis off the top. Hell even Zion arguably had a better freshman year. Cooper is very good, but definitely not the best.

1) yes I did not read this thread. I was looking for a place where I could post without starting a new thread.

2) Is it your opinion that Duke did not provide Cooper Flagg any NIL Compensation to play for them above what he was able to receive from New Balance and Fanantics? I’m sure that there was something he received to play for Duke. Whatever he received added to the $28 million would exceed the $28 million right. That is an acceptable figure for a commit with his credentials?

I am saying that the more a college player earns in NIL will make harder for many colleges to compete. Example: BYU is reportedly giving AJ Dybantsa $5 million to play for them next season starting before any other endorsements/incentives are included.
