Looking to the board historians for some insight.

This year is crazy - 7-2, so close to 9-0. Top 15 in CFB. Upset over a top 25 team at home. Eric. Dino in year 3. Offense and defense coming along enough to give anyone trouble.

But we’re still not firing at a super effecient clip on offense. With Jackson, Adams, and DeVito (all might be better than the guys in front of them, in this system) all geared to be featured in our O next season - we could be top 15 with our better fits/talent on the
bench?

Is that unprecedented?!

Your really creating some super high expectations for those guys to live up to.

We went into Marvin Graves senior year ranked #6 in the preseason polls and were #17 going into McNabbs senior year. Not sure which part you wondering if it was unprecedented but no, being ranked preseason with a ton of talent coming back is not unprecedented for Syracuse football.

I hear you. Good years. The NcNabb year being my first as a student up there ;).

Not talent coming back after being ranked - talent being replaced that may be better?

Good point... but how much better can you get than McNabb, Konrad, Spotwood, Kevin Johnson, Mo Jackson, etc...

You don't need better talent, to be a better team. Our most talented teams in terms of NFL guys were in the mid 90's. Never finished higher than 19th. It's about fitting the proper talent to your scheme.

We will lose 3 or 4 starters on the OL

That's my biggest concern. But I think Cavanaugh is one of our better OL coaches in awhile so hopefully he coaches them up.

We were #2 in the Playboy pre-season poll in 1993.
We were #6 in the ?AP pre season that year
#10 pre season in 1992
#13 pre season in 89
You have to go back to the 60's before we were a top 10 pre season again.

Also we should start the season ranked in the Top 25 instead of having to work our way up 25 spots just to get in the poll.

We basically have 6 starters (including Heckel). Three graduate, three will be back. We'll likely have a new center (Heckel), Servais will move to tackle, and Adams will stay put. That means a new guard (probably someone named Davis) and a wide open competition for the other tackle spot.

I wonder if we won’t be ranked - most ppl nationally might attribute all our success to Eric.

I think the Oline has been solid but far from what they want it to be too.. It could be better but less consistent next year, who knows.

We lose three but our sixth is getting starter reps so really we lose 2. Heckel at center next year servaious is at rt Adams back at rg lg pat Davis and lt is the Midwest kid Vito who has exceptional feet.i butchered their names sorry.

LG will probably be Dakota Davis. Vettorello is the guy you're thinking of for tackle.

It probably depends on how strong we finish. If we lose our last 2 and the bowl game maybe they see the loss of ED and assume we take a step back. Winning any of those three may keep pollsters thinking Dino is building something and keep us ranked next preseason. Win them all and they may take a closer look and realize all of the youth we have contributing that will only be better next year.
