USALAX Way-Early 2026 Division I Men's Rankings:

Gonna really suck if Maryland gets him. Gait needs to get active and pick up the phone.

Doubt he would be Maryland bound, they have a playing time issue at attack already. I agree with NYC, this screams Duke or Gtown. I would also keep an eye on Denver and maybe PSU.

We were very quiet in the portal this year.

SU's problem is where do you play him? SU has a logjam at attack right now with Spallina, Deere, Thomson, Anderson and the rumblings of Leo moving their this spring. He can play middie but with his injury history as Powellfan noted running out of the box seems destined to end badly. That also assumes he wants to play mid after playing attack the last 3 years at Hop.

IF this was a year from now I think he would be a great fit but hard to see how he fits in this late in the process and with a team already struggling to play only 3 attackmen.

I don’t mind that given the senior talent on offense this year. Gotta trust the depth to step up. McIntee and Kraftson should provide a boost to the midfield. We made a good move at ssdm where we really needed a guy.

Georgetown is interesting. I had assumed their starting attack would be the Conner brothers and Jack Ransom. They do list Liam Conner as a midfielder on the roster, so maybe they have an opening?

Duke makes sense too. They will probably be incredibly young with Kershis the only returning starter (and he didn't exactly light the world on fire last year).

Can't imagine Maryland will be involved, though could be wrong. They already seem way overloaded on attack and midfield.

When was the last time there was a "big time" winter portal entry like this? I am struggling to think of one. I think Mike Daniello transferred from Hopkins to 'Cuse over the winter, but unfortunately suffered an injury that kept him off the field.

It's one thing to bring a transfer in over the summer, but feels quite different to do that over the winter. You're most likely telling someone who thought they had a starting job all fall that they've been benched just before the start of the season. Plus the whole grad school aspect of it. I am sure there are programs out there that will accept him, but it has to limit his options, especially this time of year.

Overall it just feels like he'll end up at a non-ACC/Big Ten team. Just feels very complicated at this point of the year. I am usually wrong about this stuff, but that's my prediction.

the football schools take in all manner of grad transfers in the spring, i'd guess that'd mean any number of non-football can do the same save the ivy and patriot.

duke, tosu, psu in any order would seem the most logical. maybe unc if they don't love their 3rd option or nd as they just lost 2 starters. plus all those schools could probably finagle a scholarship.

rutgers loves transfers and denver probably has spots. might come down to what he wants -- location, PT @ attack, chance to win a title, buddies. academics may not figure as would he stay for a full grad year?

g'town has the 2 righties? from colgate and also gets schubert back, hoo was coming on late in 2024. in addition to now sophs ransom and miller, both lefties?

Does he have to go to grad school?
i mean... 'cuse has a certificate program. he needs to GET IN to a grad school or something that classifies him as a full-time student. classes may be another matter, but final grades for most grad programs will be in i'd assume early to mid-may.

hopkins opted in to the settlement, i think? i'd assume hop put him up as a "designated student athlete" pending the appeal without rostering him until they knew whether he'd clear and possibly find a grad program there. but if they didn't, his options may get limited by the 48 man roster.

i would still be surprised if he ends up at cuse but i am going to retract this statement based on some initial conversations...
I mean Cuse is a legit final four contender this year, why not take a flyer and fit in wherever you can to try one last go at a ring? Unless he goes to Maryland I don’t see a better spot to try and achieve that

This kind of makes me think he's already decided on where to do next?

The timing is tough. How many grad programs can he apply to at this time of the year and be admitted/enrolled by spring? I'm sure there are some, and schools admissions rules may be bent a bit for athletes these days, but could be tricky.
Just a guess but he wouldn't be enrolling in a degreed masters program, he would be enrolled in a certifiicate program that would allow him to take a class or two (probably online) in the spring and play. I know a bunch of people who have done this and had many conversations about this in acc/big ten schools. Probably not too hard to jump in a couple classes for a certificate in coaching. If I had to guess without any knowledge, I think Rutgers, Ohio St, Cuse and Duke have been in contact amongst others.

We know cuse went after Kyle Lewis. I think they would like a little more depth to the middies if anything. It will come down to if he is willing to take a role like that. Even with his health there is no reason he could not come out of the box and challenge a short stick matchup. He does not need to be a two way guy or anything like that to play middie for us. I like the trio of Spallina Thomson and Leo at attack next year and don't think he would be enough reason to break that up.

This is a Rutgers wet dream so I have no doubt they have been in touch.

as long as hes healthy hes much more dynamic than thomson...he can shoot from range and consistently beat shorties and even put pressure on poles. the issue is he doesnt stay healthy...

i dont think hes picked a destination yet so im not sure what dan is referencing exactly.

They also went after Lyons and Johnson from Yale as well. Both attackmen. I don’t think Melendez is on their level, but I think he’d be getting minutes for the Orange at that spot.

I like Thomson as well, but I would like him more at midfield if we could get some more dodging at the attack position. Plus if something did happen to Melendez, you’d have someone highly qualified to step in. Bringing him in wouldn’t be make or break. But you’d have to be sure that Thomson is okay with it.

The other thing we don’t know is who is that last starting midfielder for the Orange? McCarthy? Deere? It does feel like Melendez is an upgrade. I don’t think it happens but I wouldn’t be sad if it did.

Imo it would take one heck of a dodger for me to not want senior year Thomson at attack. Melendez in 2023 maybe, but not this current version. Thomson shot 44% last year and makes teams pay for putting a short stick on him, which was actually pretty rare last season. He has also improved off the dodge since his freshman year. With his chemistry over 4 years with Spallina and Leo, I would not want anyone but a seriously elite dodger to take that spot, and I don’t think Melendez is that right now. But I agree he would upgrade our midfield options.

Tough times for our North East Brethren.

Apparently Rutgers #1 lax fan is refusing to post because of a feud with Rivals and is a cold war with the site owner.

Albany's only message board site which has fallen drastically in traffic appears to have folded.

Hobart lost to Binghamton in a scrimmage.....

he posts on fanlax under the username 1766 though for some reason he lies to his fellow rutgers fans, saying that he doesnt post on fanlax. real bizarre... hes gotta be the biggest sociopath in the entire online lax community and there are a lot of em

Is that the same Rutgers fan that claims the Cuse locker room is in shambles all the time
