USMNT 2024

I know we lack talent. My biggest issue was the lack of movement. Most of the time we had 3 guys in the middle just outside the box literally standing still waiting for something to happen. No movement. Not a single run. We were trying to play iso ball on the wings 1 v 2.

Actually they tried to play it over the top quite a lot on offense. They hit a post, got a couple other pretty good chances and just didn't convert.

I agree, though. Late in the game they were too stagnant on offense. The substitute #9 Agyemang (?) was pretty dangerous. They need a consistent lineup, more than anything.

I the guy who probably had the worst game was Weston McKennie. Lots of sloppy lost passes, lost possession. Not really a force in midfield. Tessman wasn't dynamic, but was dependable defensively. McGlynn, the guy with those nice left footed passes, brought something to the offense.

Sargeant didn't take the opportunity. Had a few moments, but people have to score on some of these chances if they want to take the job. It's there for the taking. We have literally 6 or 7 guys who could play the 9 for us, but they can't stay healthy, and they can't get consistent game time. And if they do at the club level, then they have to score for the national team when they get the chance.

Soccer when its free flowing is wonderful t watch. When its bunker down and 95% of the game is passing drills not so much.

expected goals were like .7 to .1 and you lose.

Even the worst played 1-0 hockey game has dozens of chances to see goals.

I still think we need to join UEFA or at least CONMEBOL.

Besides the quality of CONCACAF being low, the style of play we use is completely the opposite of what we should be doing in the World Cup. Currently we dominate possession because we are the more talented team. But at the same time we do not have the offensive talent to put that possession into good use.

In the World Cup we will be the less talented team, so not only will we not be dominating possession, we will struggle even more to score. IMO we need to be playing more like Panama, but that will only happen if we play quality competition. Which is impossible playing in CONCACAF.

There is no way we can succeed in the World Cup playing our current style and being prepared against low level competition.

A bit OT wasn’t sure where to ask, anyone ever have a kid go to SU soccer camp? Curious how the experience was.

12 years old so not an Id camp

I did when I was in high school but that was 1982 or 83 so probably not much help.

My son went after his junior year of high school. He enjoyed it. Got to compete against some of the then current players on the team. That was 4 years ago.

Yes, but as a goalkeeper. It was good, but we knew the goalie coach for the camp. (Assuming you are in NC) I am not sure I would make that trip just for a camp at this age.
Lots of great camps down your way. We did Clemson and UNC Wilmington, which were good.

We have done unc charlotte, Davidson (this we be the 3rd year). Thought about Clemson. I have family in the Cuse and letting him stay with them and I will come up the week after. Helps connect him to SU sports as best I can. He would rather go out and play than watch right now. Do they give any shirts or swag? He gets a t from Davidson and uncc gave a jersey

I think shirts, but that’s about it (was 8+ years ago) if he is serious, look to get to academy teams if you have one nearby. College coaches recruit those pretty hard, along with ODP teams.

Yeah he plays for Fox academy They just went mls next 2 as their highest division. NPL was their highest this past year. Pretty good academy. Tried out for ODP a few years ago made alternate, I was glad it was a good amount of travel. It was good practice for getting used to trying out

We got super lucky avoiding Canada in the semifinals. Honduras is a team we should beat, even with MLS guys.

Agreed. And Freese just pulled a Matt Turner and Ethan Horvath and put himself firmly on the map with a PK shootout for the ages. I don’t think we allow CR’s second goal if Poch had subbed 5 minutes earlier. Our guys were gassed. It’s the type of coaching move we used to hammer Berhalter over. Gotta react faster when the momentum has clearly shifted to the opponent.

I think we still would have beaten this Canada team regardless, and playing them would have been a better measuring stick. Let’s take care of business with Guatemala and get some revenge on Mexico.

Gotta say that I am really liking Tillman, Agyemang, Richards and Berhalter. They should be locks for the next window. Adams is coming along really well from his injury as well. McGlynn is another kid that has some solid skill. His time is coming. And Diego Luna…the kid has stones and never stops. Love his work ethic and his fight. He deserves a shot for the final WC roster but may lose out because of depth.

I love the fight this team shows. Puts the March iteration of the team to shame. Canada got Concacaf’ed by Honduras, just like we did in the Copa America last summer vs Panama. This US Team is giving every bit they get back to the opponent, and that’s refreshing. Malik Tillman took a beating and kept coming at CR. That’s the fight we need in the final third. The trio of Tillman, Agyemang and Downs are formidable because of their size and physicality. Just wish Agyemang had elite speed.

Several of these guys have a nice work motor. Luna is all over.

We really need to solve the back end mistakes and the issues when on when they hunker down with the ball and lose it. Maybe when in doubt kick it OB. better than mistakes going backwards.
