As I'm sure many of you were yesterday, I was dumbfounded by our decision to try to run the ball with no time outs and less than two minutes to go in the game, needing thirty to forty more yards to have a legitimate chance to win the game.

A run out of the I formation with the QB under center?

The Wildcat?

A sweep that had not worked all day?

I could not believe it.

I spoke to an Athletic Department representative who did a good job talking me off the ledge.

He observed that there must be personnel issues that dicated the playcalling.

He noted that we had our safety Durell Eskridge running pass routes with a bad hand - what does that tell you?

We have help on the way - our staff is still getting comfortable - we can still go bowling - we will be okay.

So, I'm okay. I understand that the playcalling was dictated probably by issues that are beyond me as a lay fan.

I will have patience while really hoping for a win next week and a strong recruiting class.

I really have no further comment on what for me was one of the worst SU Football experiences I have ever had in forty five years. That game is burried and gone for me.

Bring on BC and lets get a friggin win!

Glad you are off a cliff, and glad that you were told something by the athletic department that gives us hope. It was one of the most frustrating games also for me. We should have won that game. But I will never give up on football as long as we have a team.

You were not alone. Attendees were turnimg around and screaming at the SU coaching Box over section 301.

We are at almost midfield with 2:30 left in the game - no reason not to run the ball. More than enough time.

my frustration level equally matched both yours and the OP, but it still didn't match the frustration about the ipf. i guess you can say it was another frustrating weekend when it comes to SU football

or how about letting 10 -15 seconds run off the clock before using their last timeout on pitt's 3rd down play. that was a head scratcher.
see that is the stuff that does really piss me off. I find it really hard to assess the play calling or a lot of other coaching decisions, but clock mgmt screw ups like that are inexcusable. You just had a timeout, you need to KNOW what the plan is if you stop them on the next play.

was this discussion during the game or afterwards?

Im ok with trying to run the ball in the two minute offense - you do whatever you can to get 10 yards and get the clock stopped. With our offense this is more likely running the ball. Additionally, if Pitts defense is in prevent position, then we should be able to run the ball.

I started a separate thread on this yesterday. It was stunned watching it unfold live

So this was our Saturday. I'm not sure if I should feel good about this, or bad, but all I know is it is a full time job being a fan of this program

-Blocked pta that ultimately costs us the game, plus a missed fg
-8 more penalties for 77 total yards
-Bad game management calling allowing 12 seconds to run off the clock before calling a TO
-All time bad play calling the past 3 series highlighted by Ashton running the wildcat, going off tackle to the short side on 2nd and 10, and a bubble screen on 3rd and 10
-Losing your star LT, MLB, and starting safety for the game due to injury
-2 blatant game changing missed pass interference calls
-A questionable TO given to Pitt nullifying a game winning fake FG, that could have been prevented by snapping the ball sooner
-An actual 21k in the stands
-Finding out your program reviving Indoor Practice Facility has been put on the back burner

And we still only lose by 1 point to a regional rival

Was happy to see that. Because I was beside myself but too far away to be heard.

There's no justification for having Eskridge on offense. Funderburke was available (he was targeted later) and has two hands).

This has been beaten to death elsewhere, but McDonald failed yesterday. . Horrible. This isn't to say that he can't (or won't) improve, and it's not to say our talent is great (or good). But he did an awful job and contributed hugely to a one-point loss.

Maybe Eskridge made that play time and time again in practice? And, better than any of the current WR's. Seriously, I doubt the staff would put a guy out there that is worse than what is available and it shows me that if we had a 6'5" wr...maybe we'd be using that play and scoring some TD's on fades and the like.

Hey, as you are now backed away from the ledge, how's about throwin' down a rope?

;)
