Vince Kehres: New DC

Toledo has a Junior Safety named Braden Awls who led the MAC in interceptions this past season.
***soon to be Syracuse Safety***

Expect a few of the really good players on that defensive to follow Kehres. I know we are going to make a big push for Ross (the DBs coach) and pretty sure Kehres wants to bring the DL coach as well. Expect a few of the Toledo DBs and D-lineman to transfer over.

I’m giggy about this hire man. Samuels, Peal, Kerr, AD and Bryant are gonna love this guy. Perry will be back from injury to help anchor the d-line. Take a couple of toledos good DBs and D-lineman. Players are gonna want to play for Kehres and Fran in the portal. You have 4 pretty good d-lineman coming in from this last recruiting class. You have the 2 massive Canadian d-lineman from last class that the staff loves that didn’t play this year much. This defense is going to look completely different next year with a more than competent coach in Kehres

"Yes, Toledo's defense in recent years, including 2024, has been described as a hybrid using elements of both a 4-2-5 and a 3-3-5, often featuring three down linemen and three linebackers, but they can flex into different looks depending on personnel, classifying as multiple. While older sources mention a 3-3-5, their current scheme under DC Vince Kehres leans into Quarters coverage and hybrid looks, utilizing three linemen and three linebackers but with flexibility, making it a blend."

But he’s never going to get rid of Robinson- he’s his best friend! Shoutout to a few of you who mentioned this guys name earlier in the thread and other spots too. The guy is a stud. And as always a big shoutout to our very own better version of Adam Schefter richmondcuse03 for the early call on this. This is as good as it gets for a hire right here along with the new OL coach. Great day

Love this! Don't know a thing other that we are headed up! Believe in Fran and Wildhack. Growth takes a minute. Be patient.
That’s kind of the fun mystery of following Syracuse being a private school. You really don’t know the resource pool exactly because they don’t have to report it, but you can basically tell by the moves on staff and players that your getting that the resources are improving. If we were out of the ballpark, we would have no chance.

I love the hire, but we don't have the personal to make a seamless change to the 3-3-5. Two LB's. Plus, you bring in 2 blue chip EDGE rushers. How do they fit into the 3-3-5? The scheme doesn't match the personnel right now. I realize this is a long-term move, but how long do successful asst coaches stay at schools these years. I thought Fran was interested in big lineman and track speed further away from the line? Will be interested to see what implemented and how the pieces fit. Other than that, outstanding hire.

Looking at their depth chart, it looks very similar to ours from this year.

DE-DT-DT-OLB (Reese’s position)

LB - LB

CB-NB-S-S-CB

Read the quote that Phil posted above, sounds like they played more of a hybrid recently.

So safe to say Kehres has never had the talent to work with that he will have at Syracuse including the 2 blue chip edge rushers and the big lineman. I would imagine he would add new wrinkles to his defenses that he essentially will have level of athletes he has never worked with before. Also, Fran has emphasized versatility in his recruiting, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see some players in positions we didn’t expect. But that’s way above my expertise on how that will work lol.

Three linebackers helps Deslauriers. He’s made as a middle linebacker.
