Vinny Lobdell Donor Group

he was the biggest or close to the biggest bball donor. maybe not as much as his group but still. maybe some in his group just have a love for gmac. ask etan and derrick how much they donated for red.
Right. Those are idiotic comments by them. Vinny is a huge supporter and did a lot for Red too. It’s not surprising to see others come out and support a new coach.

Seriously I’m so sick of Etan Thomas. SHUT UP. You don’t do anything. Vinny is such a good dude. He has given this program so much money and does so much stuff behind the scenes that no one even knows about. He’s giving millions and millions. And like I said “someone who sits close to melo”, well here ya go. It’s him. Glad this is out because he’s helping more than anyone

Yeah Etan needs to shut his soup coller.

By the time NIL was a thing..Red already looked hopeless. He reacted very slow and we’ve always heard he wasn’t great fundraising wise. GMac is arguably the most beloved ex-CBB Cuse player of the last 30+ years…..The timing of the Siena turnaround + the Duke game + Red disaster. Donors are willing to give the most beloved player most can remember one final massive NIL push to save the program.

There is no post-GMac. If Gerry fails, not only do we get left behind but the donors leave. It’d be curtains at that point.

No Better person to attract this type of cash in this moment
I’d also like to point out that Red doesn’t have the pull and appeal that Gmac does. Every casual Cuse fan (and some non Cuse fans) knows who Gmac is. Same reasoning that Gmac as a hc hire was so easy to sell to casual fans, those same ones will support him (possibly even financially) because of who he is and what he accomplished here.

Dumb question, but if this $4-5M donation ends up being successful, will that be added on to the ACC top third projection we’re most likely going to be in, or is this number included in that?
I am pretty sure that is money that is expected and to be part of the large amount that Gerry can use. Others are being asked to do the same thing.

One of the key attributes of a coach today is they need to be willing to raise money, spend time with boosters and sell themselves and the program. Not sure if that was Reds deal or not but he should have been getting money from ex players like Coleman and Etan

Thankyou Lobdell Donor Group. You have appeared at exactly the right time. The best players are going to go where they can receive the most money. We are in a pro like era where the best players are making a lot of money for their high basketball acumen. Your assistance is greatly appreciated, possibly saving this program from not being a legitimate contender nationally each year.

While money is a huge factor, players also consider the opportunity to compete for championships and relationships with coaches. With Gerry McNamara loved by not only fans but also known by players for his knowledge and coaching, this is a key moment for you to be here offering what you can to the Syracuse Basketball Program. I think with Gerry and now you providing key contributions believe we will remain - or should I say regain the position we were in years ago when we won the national championship. Fans remember and they will come if the product is a good, competitive one.

Your realization that this year will be key to this program and that NIL collectives, the groups handling payments for schools, often drive recruitment decisions, with top-tier players in high demand often going to the highest bidder. With few regulations, top players are now receiving payments comparable to entry-level professional salaries. For instance, top transfers in 2025 were securing deals north of 2 million.

Hopefully the steps that have been taken with a new chancellor, athletics director and coach striving to get us to where we should be again, and you providing a resource we've not had and is required because that is the state of the best college basketball programs, we will succeed and bring us back into the forefront college sport.

That’s huge!! We gotta be sitting around $13M+ now?
The key will be sustaining that level. Would love to see a bunch of out big boosters get a pot together ($100M+) that isn’t touched, but the earning go to NIL each year. Maybe a 5 year commitment to leave the money in. (Not my money, so easy for me)
