With apologies to people with bigger, real problems
My little Orange heart is broken. This isn't a question of "can we turn the corner?" Rather it's a question of "can we walk down the damned street?"
I realize sports are games that have little intrinsic meaning except what we assign to them, but waaaaaaa. I'm so rankled (there are other words, but this'll do) our team has nosedived after 2018. This year and its attendant excitement is all shot to hell. It's all triage till next year. Can we hold on to our decent and probably underrated recruiting class? How do we appeal to other recruits? Is the team motivated and listening to the coaches? Who will stay? Who will leave?
The whole inverted pyramid of SU football rests on the shoulders of a preyed upon 21-year-old QB from NJ and if he's not up to it (yeah, yeah doesn't possess the "intangibles") we're screwed - especially in the absence of a capable back up. Throw in other factors cited ad nauseam (OL, unsuitable personnel for the system, injuries, questionable coaching) and you've got a toxic mix enabling poor performance. Can you imagine where we'd be if we didn't generate all those turnovers this season?
Damn it.
And the thing is only a little improvement would probably mean a couple more wins in our recent seasons (except for '18).
Anyway, I know y'all are feeling it too. Just so disappointing. How could we get caught so short in the personnel dept? I do want them to perform well, but it just seems so elusive for our particular situation. A Pitt, BC or even Duke level seems so achievable yet beyond our grasp.
More to say, but I'll just shut up now and thank you all for the whine.
Oh well, there's always next year.

No coach could have done more with what we have to work with. Whether or not a different coach could have recruited better is up for debate, although there is no evidence of it. A better question might be why we have so many injuries and is it more than most other teams? I really believe if we were 90% healthy on the line none of these conversations would be taking place. Instead, people would find something else to be unhappy with.

This is an absolutely false statement..."No coach could have done more with what we have to work with". A better scheme, able to adjust system to personnel, better game management, etc, etc, ect.... All things Dino has failed to accomplish.

His game management has not cost us a game and you can't just implement a new scheme week to week when your guys are all limited in talent and experience and you don't know who you have and what they can do until they do it Not sure how to respond to etc, etc, etc, since that usually means you have nothing to say in place of that. I am unaware of any coach that makes major schematic changes week to week, especially since the guys you recruited need reps in the scheme they were recruited to play in. Changing schemes constantly does no good short or long term. I could see a major schematic change if you went from Bob Greise to Bobby Douglas. You, sir, are one of the complainers mentioned above.

I'm sorry I don't have a pair of orange colored glasses as yourself. I look at the product that was created the five years he has been coach and don't get caught up in the "he has great charisma" stuff.

Oh well, there's always next year.

The allure for the last years, 3 or so, has been the offense and early playing time when we lost but still had an offensive vibe. That seems to be lost. The system initially should have brought in the wr and rb and te talent, even the OL. That said, we have not seen that and its evident with the talent we are throwing out there.

I mean, we beat Duke 49-6 last year in a game that was never close. Since Dino started here, Duke's regular season records have been 4-8, 6-6, 7-5, 5-7.

Is it possible there could just be some extenuating circumstances this year?
There are for lots of teams
I don’t study the D I need the mental break when we are on D but now with tommy out I’m a defensive guy I’ll better assess it . For now it’s obvious our LBs are not handling the run game well and in our scheme it’s a must .
Coach learned his lesson with injuries and the O line it’s an easy transfer sell to come play right away and he must . Let’s face it this year is free for him and it should be but next year he will be on a very hot seat IMO and that’s a good thing . With big $$ at stake he will make roster moves he 100% knows what we see he is privy to so much we don’t see trust me he gets it . He technically will be in a contract year I can’t see him leaving any stone unturned . You fans have the right to be upset but my advice is wait to see off season moves . Trust me I need to see these moves too . Forget Tommy’s injury btw no surgery needed !! And he is in no pain at all still gonna be out . It hit him today not being part of the game plan and that he is out .
I told him 2 years left that’s a lot of football
I’m optimistic the roster will upgrade.
Its 2020 worst year ever .

Glad to hear Tommy's news. As a doc once told me "the human body wasn't meant to be cut into.".

I did not mention anything about his charismatic personality (although he does have one). I tend not to have orange tinted glasses but rather a hold on reality. What you rant about does not and cannot happen. We are not, and may never be, a team that can suffer the types of losses we have had the last 2 years and still perform at a high (bowl) level. What do you think the ending record of the 1987 team would have been if 13 starters were missing? I assure you that even Mac would have struggled with winning. I just disagree with you and find your take to be unrealistic. And for the record, I am not angry, I am frustrated with injuries and unexpected losses, not to mention guy not being as good as projected.

We gotta prioritize having the easiest OOC schedule as possible, two G5's and not the good ones, then grab an instate team and the other from the patriot league, that's just about 4 guarenteed wins all we need is 2 ACC's for a bowl, count me in, some easy 8 win+ seasons if we're any good, attendance for G5 games won't be to bad and if this is the way we need to go to hit consistent bowl games then sign me up, in a normal season without ND on the schedule we don't have much of an excuse to miss a bowl game, hopefully he pounds the portal and makes the coaching changes needed, no reason we can't be an exciting 6 win bowl team at a minimum

I’m going to say it, you’re less biased now and I love these insights.

i am so happy to hear that Tommy didn’t need surgery. I hope he sticks around and I hope that he comes out next year ready to light up the ACC and leads us to glory. He seems like a good kid

I'm interested in the story line here. Back against the wall, nothing has gone to plan, how do you bounce back? What do you do? Tommy coming back, with a good line (or atleast an improved one), maybe some help at receiver (Alford stepping up, Hendrix coming into his own, one of the freshman make a push, Taj eats a sandwich!?), run game solidifying (Tucker in his second year), and Tommy comes out and shuts up everyone. Would be a great come back story and show a ton of resolve. I would love to eat that crow.

As lucky as we have gotten in the secondary recently we have gotten equally unlucky with WR recruits. A Michigan St transfer kind of filled the void (everyone else was awful last year even Taj) but when he left we really needed to get some new transfers those guys drop absolutely everything.

Clemson aside I don't think the rest of the year will be that bad. It won't be fun to watch and you'll be reliving UNC/Pitt but I see a couple more wins.

We can beat everyone other than Clemson on next years schedule.

I don't think it was luck, w recruited well in the secondary and brought in some great talent. As far as wr and wo the transfers, we have struck out. Where is the confusion? Dino has struck out with the position he is supposed to recruit. These guys are are so vanilla and average . No speed or size and that's a problem.

Not sure how you see wins with this group, injuries aside on the oline. Taj at 160# is our go to and that should be a concern.

First of all Monroe is the best recruiter because he speaks the kids lingo this is huge
Secondly 9 out of 10 times our commits choose cuse because it’s the best offer they have. What burns me is the Wr position
I watched UAB a few weeks ago they have grown men at WR . If I’m a we recruiter sure you want speed but I want dogs ! You can see it guys who will fight for a ball and have that nasty edge combined with great hands
That’s what we need .

ND will be ugly as well
Louisville will run all over us
Liberty we should still beat
NC state is rolling
BC will be tough
Wake is a game we can win
Clemson ugly with a capitol U
And this is my belief tommy or no tommy
Until we stop the run we aren’t winning period .

We do need dogs. Those 50/50 wins we had with AET, Tristan and Ish are just not happening now. Happy TD is going to be ok.

Tristian was a terrific wr for us but he wasn’t a dog persay not a 50/50 ball guy and that’s ok I’d like 2 of him and 2 dogs throw in some fries and a large Dr Pepper . Dating back to last year not one play would make you got mossed , for that matter I can’t think of one diving , high reaching , toe tapping , contorted , contested catch not a single one
Sure maybe I’m forgetting one or two but I don’t think I am . I’m 2017 especially ED would under throw balls by 5–10 yards weekly and ish or irv would come back and get it . Tristian came back for one last year VS NC state late in the first half that’s all and that’s it . I hope we see Alfred , Barron , Williams and Hendrix oh and pena get some work this season as it should be let’s see what we got competition time . At all positions.

I hope your being facetious.
Very few D1 coaches would have done less. Regardless of injuries the scheme, play calling, in game adjustments have been grade school level.
The O is at Gergish levels of ineptitude. A WV full blown Holler Couch Inferno bad.

Those that can coach do. Those that can't become loud mouthed opinionated oafs.
