With apologies to people with bigger, real problems
My little Orange heart is broken. This isn't a question of "can we turn the corner?" Rather it's a question of "can we walk down the damned street?"
I realize sports are games that have little intrinsic meaning except what we assign to them, but waaaaaaa. I'm so rankled (there are other words, but this'll do) our team has nosedived after 2018. This year and its attendant excitement is all shot to hell. It's all triage till next year. Can we hold on to our decent and probably underrated recruiting class? How do we appeal to other recruits? Is the team motivated and listening to the coaches? Who will stay? Who will leave?
The whole inverted pyramid of SU football rests on the shoulders of a preyed upon 21-year-old QB from NJ and if he's not up to it (yeah, yeah doesn't possess the "intangibles") we're screwed - especially in the absence of a capable back up. Throw in other factors cited ad nauseam (OL, unsuitable personnel for the system, injuries, questionable coaching) and you've got a toxic mix enabling poor performance. Can you imagine where we'd be if we didn't generate all those turnovers this season?
Damn it.
And the thing is only a little improvement would probably mean a couple more wins in our recent seasons (except for '18).
Anyway, I know y'all are feeling it too. Just so disappointing. How could we get caught so short in the personnel dept? I do want them to perform well, but it just seems so elusive for our particular situation. A Pitt, BC or even Duke level seems so achievable yet beyond our grasp.
More to say, but I'll just shut up now and thank you all for the whine.
Oh well, there's always next year.
