Wayne Morgan's Journal

I like how tight he is with Reddish...gotta figure it helps us

"We had long talks with our coach [Chris Legree of Mo Better] and we realized we wanted to start our own legacy there. Fort has their own thing. They’re already one of the best programs in the city. We wanted to start our own thing at E-Hall."

Sounds like the mindset of someone that would choose Syracuse over a football factory to me. Love this guys confidence as well.

He seems to be one of those players, like Reddish, that are looked up to by his peers and younger kids in NYC. Wayne comes to the Orange, we may be locking down NYC's top talent from here on out.

As I've mentioned before, I'd be shocked if Wayne didn't pick SU. Its SU vs. UConn right now. Everyone else has backed off.

My thoughts exactly.

It is SU vs SC from someone close to the situation.

Does he have the SC offer? Didn't think they bit yet. GA Magnus has been money up north for SC.

Any reason why everyone else has backed off?

The poster that said that is also pretty close to the "situation".

This nonsense about poor camp showings are just another internet myth and urban legend that has taken on a life of it's own. He was definitely wooed early by Michigan and took an unnofficial visit out there. He didn't commit early like they wanted him to. By mid June Michigan had 4 DB commits and 5 by July. At that point they were full.

The longer it went the more clear it became that Morgan was probably going to stick around the Northeast. Schools didn't back off as much as Morgan backed off them.

As reported by mgoblog from a camp in May in Brooklyn, Morgan listed at 5'10", 187 lbs. He was hampered by a hamstring injury from earlier in the week ran two 40 yard times (hand timed) and were 4.43 and 4.35 respectively [featured in the video below]. His 20 yard shuttle times were 4.22 and 4.09 seconds.

ESPN on Morgan at Rutgers NIKE camp

ESPN names Morgan to Rutgers NIKE all camp team. As well as names offers and tip that he;ll probably stay close to home.

In July Morgan went out to Oregon where he competed in another NIKE camp called the Opening. It should be noted that NIKE selected the top 150 players in the nation to compete in this event. His SPARQ rating was good enough for 11th overall.

Per the NY POST:

Morgan’s 7-on-7 at Nike World Headquarters, Vapor Carbon, went to the championship game and he registered a 121.0 SPARQ rating, good enough for 11th overall at the camp. The 5-foot-11, 186-pound speedster ran a 4.49 40-yard dash. His stock is as high as it ever has been, even going back to when he ran a 4.4 at the USC Rising Star camp after his freshman year.

Is it too early for the "Wayne Morgan is my homeboy" shirts?

It's not complete myth. When we were at scout I followed on twitter the near play by play account of 2 all star games that scout guys were tweeting. He got burned quite a bit and those at the game coulnd't believe how poorly he was playing. I think there were reports of those games. But it wasn't an urban legend that it happened. Doesn't mean he wouldn't be a great get though.

He'd make a good Orangeman.

He got beat badly one time down in Florida, but not every DB is going to be perfect all of the time. He was outstanding everywhere else.

Orlando was also a few days after his performance in Oregon. But from what I read he rebounded and did a decent job. The Florida thing was 7 on 7 tourney.

If it's such a myth, why have most of the NE schools also backed off?

Oh really, the NE schools have also backed off? Who's backed off exactly and how would you know this?

The only school that is known to have backed off is Michigan and that's because Morgan wouldn't commit to them early - like they were pressuring him to do (see Ron Thompson) and they took 5 defensive backs in the meantime.

Morgan has backed off schools more so than they've backed off him. The people around him have been pushing him to Cuse now for months; schools appeared to have backed off because they don't have chance at landing him.

It's not because he gave up a TD pass at a 7 on 7 tourney in Orlando. The fact is that he put up impressive times and showings at NIKE camps this summer; go look at all the links I provided.

Last year at USC summer camp he ran a 4.45 and had a 35" vertical.

There is no disputing that this kid has been a consistant sub 4.5 guy, has a 30 plus vert and his shuttle times are faster than any recruit Marrone or Robinson has brought in to date. If you read all the camp reports (or watch his camp videos) he's a strong, aggressive press coverage corner, with great closing spead, quick feet and hips - he's perfect for our defense. Hopefully everybody did back off because he's signed sealed and delivered to Cuse.
