We’re Going to Get Dog-Walked….

Honestly if the defense plays like it did yesterday again vs Duke, we will be fine. Just give the ball to Willis and Nixon 40-50 times and let them do their thing. They both have been very good. Hit some screens to Cook and Gill. A few quick passes to Cook, Gill, JRS, Villari and let them work their magic. I have full faith in Jeff Nixon and the game plan he comes up with. He and Erob about called a perfect game yesterday. Props to the players was executed flawlessly too

Duke will be thinking the same thing and will likely game plan to load the box, take away the run and short passing game.

Because of that, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nixon come out throwing and rolling the pocket.

It kind of feels like Christmas. No idea what we are getting next week but I am looking forward to being there for the sellout. LGO!

100% like I was saying, I trust Nixon and his game plan. It’s also nice to have a running back like Willis who can just run people over if they load box lol. Then have another stud running back like Nixon who can turn the corner or catch the ball out of the backfield and spread out the defense as well. I agree though, I think we’ll see Nixon moving Collins out of the pocket. I think we will see a heavy dose of the run game. Set up some screen passes/quick passes. Then a few deep shots to Cook, Gill or JRS. The good thing about this offense is not only do we have a bunch of playmakers but we have a bunch of playmakers that are versatile that can score on you in different ways. But who knows, maybe Collins has a great week of practice with the ones knowing he is the obvious starter now. And then really let’s loose against Duke and kills it. I have full faith in this offensive staff and they’ll know what to do

I just don’t think Nixon has it in him to not throw 30+ times. Even when we needed to burn clock yesterday we still had Rickie throwing. I don’t see the offense changing much at all. Seems like it’s our DNA and we will live and die with the pass game.

Welp, time to rain on the parade: the defense wasn’t as good as the hype suggests. Yes, it looked different and yes, we finally figured out how to blitz. But…
  • That 10-yard corner or linebacker blitz? It did almost nothing except set up big plays for Clemson.
  • Tackling did improve, which was great.
  • There were some absolutely great plays, no doubt.
  • But our corners got burned more than once, leading to PIs or easy touchdowns.
We need to slow the roll on calling this a “great” defense. Clemson hasn’t hit 400 yards of offense all year—even against Troy—and we gave up 500.

The run game? Randall abused us, and we’re lucky they went away from it. They could’ve run that same pitch/sweep the entire second half and he’d still be racking up yards.

Credit to Big E for finally hitting the “blitz/aggression” button. That was fun to watch.

But overall? The defense looked pretty, yet the proof is still in the pudding: there’s a lot of work left to do.

Yeah I’m a big fan of Nixon’s game plans and play calling. Wouldn’t surprise me to see him open up with stuff Duke might not be expecting from RC. Whether RC is ready for that is a different story. I’m sure he will get 95+% of the reps with the 1s this week.

Don’t mind trading yarfs for clock. They were excellent on 3rd and 4th down. I’d take 500 yds and 21 pts against all day every day getting off the field and being plus in TOs.

Have you met Bnoro?

Are people actually worried? Duke lost to Tulane and Illinois, who both got dog walked by the only actual competition they've faced this year. Beating NC State isn't impressive to me at all. We'll be fine

I have. What part of any of my post is not facts?
I LOVED that we got agressive and Tremble had a bunch of good plays that don't show up on the stat line.
Grant was a BEAST.
DL looked the best it has this year.
Samuels had some great plays.
They did a great job on 4th down and getting turnovers.
It was a very improved performance.

Worried? No. But we will have to play a complete game on both sides of the ball to beat Duke. They are decidedly better than UConn.

We don’t really know quite yet what we are getting with Rickie. Is he Garrett coming in for Tommy, or CDRW coming in for Garrett? Or something in between? Im cautiously optimistic.

As frustrating as it is to watch the other team move the ball, as they have every single week, we haven't given up a lot of points. 20, 24, 21. Obviously different game situations and talent levels, but similar results.

And honestly i'll take giving up 22 points a game. I think we can outscore that.

In today’s game, giving up 22 on avg seems excellent. Our defense certainly is not elite, but it does seem like they are improving, and to date we’ve stayed fairly healthy. In previous years (pre - Fran), we would come away from games against the likes of Tenn and Clemson with a slew of players down and usually for a while, and the rest of the year was makeshift.

The capability of Samuels, Deslaurier and now Tremble to be impressive performers as Freshman has been amazing, and gives Fran a lot of recruiting ammunition.
