We are up to No. 26 on ESPN FPI ranking.

Based on what I saw on ESPN a today, we’re being punished for how LSU played. I heard a talking head bashing LSU because, “DBU’ is now taking transfers from Syracuse”
Oy vey!

Wow… someone is asleep and hasn’t done their job. They should look at how many NFL guys we have had lately for little old Syracuse!
Might have been Ryan Clark, who went to LSU, so that might point to where his frustration comes from, but no reason to make it about Syracuse.

After Western Michigan we should climb into the FPI top 25. Will probably start to receive votes in the AP poll after we beat WMU.
Agreed. My wish is to see us go out and destroy them much like we did Colgate. Depending on what happens in the top 25 maybe even get us into the 22-25 range.

That won’t get a ranking, which is fine. Need to be 4-0 and playing at a high level, that’s the goal, take care of business and the recognition will follow.

The only time I care whether we are ranked is the final poll, and I want to be in the top 10.

we need to run the ball better to be an effective offense,.. If we can take another leap there the next 2 weeks the passing game will have room to roam.

We are irrelevant

65-0 doesn't even draw a huh from any national media

We could win 58-10 this week and it still won't draw attention

It'll take winning at Purdue, handily, to start to get people to acknowledge or look at the team

We should have scored 70 against Colgate, then we would be ranked in top 25. It is much easier to impress computers. And right now we need to press. It is a mistake to call off the dogs on the 4th quarter yesterday IMO.

“It’s not worth winning if you can’t win big!!!” - Coach Reilly

Seems like a flawed model then...weird that they would structure it that way
It works great once teams start playing other teams. Blowout adjusted Margin of victory further adjusted for how good your opponents are

Much simpler than other ratings which makes it more trustworthy to me and the results always end up looking right

CBS Sports has us 56th, right behind Nebraska and South Alabama. The Athletic has us 65th, DROPPING us one spot after the Colgate game. You all know I am a San Diego State alum dad so I am normally biased about them but they struggled to beat an FCS team and I can tell you they don’t look good at all. Yet The Athletic has them 9 spots ahead of us, and they have Purdue 15 spots ahead of us. This is the kind of stupidity out there. So, keep winning and shove it up everyone’s arse

Why get worked up about in season polls?
The only one with any real meaning is the end of season poll. Start finishing every year in the top 20, and an occasional top 10, and we will become relevant again.
This should be true but its not.

1. Being ranked is noticed by recruits (they are *this* close to making the CFP)
2. Being ranked gets you more media attention which is noticed by recruits
3. Being ranked gets you better TV slots which is noticed by recruits
4. Getting better TV slots gets you more coverage of the game which leads to #2 and #3
5. Being ranked gets you additional opportunities like Gameday and other ancilary benefits
6. Getting better recruits helps the team get better which leads to better rankings

Being ranked helps program notoriety in more ways than you can count and all that notoriety helps with image and recruiting.
