We are up to No. 26 on ESPN FPI ranking.

This should be true but its not.

1. Being ranked is noticed by recruits (they are *this* close to making the CFP)
2. Being ranked gets you more media attention which is noticed by recruits
3. Being ranked gets you better TV slots which is noticed by recruits
4. Getting better TV slots gets you more coverage of the game which leads to #2 and #3
5. Being ranked gets you additional opportunities like Gameday and other ancilary benefits
6. Getting better recruits helps the team get better which leads to better rankings

Being ranked helps program notoriety in more ways than you can count and all that notoriety helps with image and recruiting.
I listen to ACC radio in the car. I flip on ACC Network on TV. Is Syracuse playing this weekend? Are we even in the ACC? You’d never know it. Yeah, having a ranking would force acknowledgment that our team exists. We have a way to go before that happens this year though.

ACC Network on SiriusXM does little team promo radio spots on the breaks. I have never heard a Cuse promo.

They have analytics on where listeners are from. They are playing to their audience.

Why get worked up about in season polls?
The only one with any real meaning is the end of season poll. Start finishing every year in the top 20, and an occasional top 10, and we will become relevant again.
Because as fans we know perception helps generate success in fan support and recruiting. If you’re unranked all year, there is far less buzz about the team. You’re not mentioned in Top 25 results, there’s no number next to your name, casual fans dismiss the team and games.

how do they know where the listeners are from? All they know is randomly where a set of owners might live. There is also a small set of actual listeners who are streaming some stuff i suspect.

Most likely form the cable networks/Directv/Dish based on customers who are streaming the service. I have no doubt they know who's watching what.

but its radio for the most part not tv.

ACC Radio on SiriusXM? Then, even easier. Your SiriusXM radio has an ESN number linked to your account, which has your address. It's how they limit service outside of US. Even Canada has a different "company" they run through. Plus, wouldn't surprise me if they have Geosyncing going on.

So how does the info of what i am listening to in my car get back to someone to tell them what i am listening to?

You mean what channel?

I am obviously not an expert, but I suspect by a channel ID.

Time to relook at how the computers calculate things:

Alabama No. 1 even with a loss at home. smh.

Here, I found this. It's relevant to their satellite systems too:
Thats a way of trying to identify based on usage what you might be looking at. I dont have any of those apps so good luck with that.

I do some streaming but I also dont have the same emails attached to most things I use.

Well, either way, they know. I get local ads on my siriusxm radio all the time.

interesting.. I have never an ad ever other than some canned ones on the channels i listen to. most of my listening there are no ads at all anyway.

once VSIN went away though much of my listening did as well, sports grid is bad.

The predictor favors us in every game sans UNC which is 50/50 and FSU … I thought my eyes were betraying me after I looked this morning.
Favors Cuse by quite a bit in almost every game. I assume the matrix must be off a bit based on our lopsided wins against clearly inferior opponents. That or… BOOK YOUR MF’ING TICKETS TO THE CFP!!
