I listen to ACC radio in the car. I flip on ACC Network on TV. Is Syracuse playing this weekend? Are we even in the ACC? You’d never know it. Yeah, having a ranking would force acknowledgment that our team exists. We have a way to go before that happens this year though. This should be true but its not.
1. Being ranked is noticed by recruits (they are *this* close to making the CFP)
2. Being ranked gets you more media attention which is noticed by recruits
3. Being ranked gets you better TV slots which is noticed by recruits
4. Getting better TV slots gets you more coverage of the game which leads to #2 and #3
5. Being ranked gets you additional opportunities like Gameday and other ancilary benefits
6. Getting better recruits helps the team get better which leads to better rankings
Being ranked helps program notoriety in more ways than you can count and all that notoriety helps with image and recruiting.
